An ophthalmic treatment apparatus uses therapy and diagnostic laser light sources whose beams are deflected two-dimensionally via an optical deflector and a galvanomirror and directed on the eye fundus to produce a fundus image on a display monitor. A photosensitive substance that accumulates specifically in neovascular regions is administered to the patient to define the region where the neovascular tissues are located. When the region is to be treated, the therapy laser light source is activated and its intensity is amplified by a controller and a driver for driving a light modulator. This arrangement assures a reliable definition of the affected region and enables only the neovascular tissues to be destroyed or sealed off because the laser intensity can be amplified at the region concerned.

Ophthalmic treatment apparatus

There is provided a cancer therapeutic instrument for use in treatment of cancer and tumor. According to such an instrument, the affected part is irradiated effectively with activation light thereby obtaining an effect of the light treatment. The cancer therapeutic instrument is equipped with a tube of which a tip is closed, a tip end of the tube being adapted to be inserted into a subject to be treated, and an optical fiber of which a tip end is adapted to be disposed slidably inside the tube.

A fiber optic laser conducting probe is used for photodynamic therapy. In this fiber optic laser conducting probe, an optical fiber has an end used for conducting a pulse laser beam. The laser beam is conducted through the optical fiber and irradiated from the end. A end tip is made of polyamide resin. The end tip has a hollow portion, and is attached to the end of the optical fiber such that the pulse laser beam can be irradiated through the end of the optical fiber, through the hollow portion and through the end tip.

A cancer diagnosis and treatment device comprising a solid-state laser generator such as an Nd-YAG laser, an alexandrite laser, or titanium sapphire laser for emitting a first laser beam having a first wavelength, a harmonic generator for generating higher harmonic laser beams of the first laser beam and outputting one of the higher harmonic laser beams, and an optical parametric oscillator for converting the harmonic laser beam outputted from the harmonic generator into second and third laser beams suitable for the cancer diagnosis and treatment, the second laser beam having a second wavelength stimulating a sterilizing photochemical reaction between the photosensitive material and the cancer foci to perform the cancer treatment and the third laser beam having a third wavelength inducing fluorescence inherent to the photosensitive material to enable the cancer diagnosis, an endoscope for guiding the second and third laser beams emitted from the laser beam source to the cancer foci and transmitting an image of the fluorescence of the photosensitive material to an outside of the body, and a cancer observing unit having a screen for receiving the image of the fluorescence of the photosensitive material al transmitted through the endoscope unit and displaying the image on the screen to thereby perform the cancer diagnosis.

An optical fiber laser device, used as a pulse laser device, has a spherical lens made of optical glass having a refractive index of 2 or less. The spherical lens is provided on an extreme end of an optical fiber which guides a pulse laser beam. An object side of the spherical lens is projected externally of a base housing the spherical lens therein.
