A plasma display panel has a first substrate, plural pairs of display electrodes, a second substrate, and plural data electrodes. Each pair of the display electrodes is made up of a scanning electrode and a sustain electrode which are arranged parallel to each other on the first substrate. The second substrate is disposed opposite to the first substrate. A discharge space is formed between the first substrate and second substrate. The data electrodes are arranged in a direction perpendicular to the display electrodes on the second substrate. The data electrode is wider in peripheral portion of the second substrate than in a central portion of the second substrate.

Plasma display panel

A gas discharge panel includes a first substrate and a second substrate. A plurality of display electrode pairs which are each made up of a sustain electrode and a scan electrode are formed on the first substrate, and the first substrate and the second substrate are set facing each other with a plurality of barrier ribs in between so as to form a plurality of cells. In this gas discharge panel, at least one of the sustain electrode and the scan electrode includes: a plurality of line parts; and a discharge developing part which makes a gap between adjacent line parts smaller in areas corresponding to channels between adjacent barrier ribs than in areas corresponding to the barrier ribs.

The present invention aims to ensure luminosity while improving evacuation characteristics in a plasma display panel. First ribs () that separate a plurality of cells from each other and second ribs () are formed in stripe patterns so as to intersect with each other on a surface of a first substrate (), a surface of a second substrate opposes tops of the first ribs, and a height of the ribs at intersections () of the first and second ribs intersect is lower than other parts of the first ribs ().

Plasma display panel and manufacturing method therefor

A plasma display panel can reduce a discharge delay in address discharge, thereby performing high-speed addressing in a stable manner. A front substrate () and a back substrate () are disposed to face each other, and a discharge space () is formed and partitioned by barrier ribs () so as to form priming discharge cells () and main discharge cells (). A clearance () is provided between the barrier ribs () of the priming discharge cells () and the front substrate (), and priming particles generated in the priming discharge cells () are supplied to the main discharge cells () through the clearance (), whereby a PDP performing high-speed addressing is obtained.

A plasma display device that enables a stable address operation even in a high-speed drive so as to display an image of high definition and high quality. A PDP having discharge cells each provided with a scanning electrode and a sustaining electrode is driven by a method for displaying a frame of an image by repeating an address period, a discharge sustaining period, and a discharge suspend period. At least one initialization period that succeeds a discharge suspend period and in which the state of the wall charge in each discharge cell is initialized is provided. In the discharge suspend period, a voltage is applied between the scanning electrode and the sustaining electrode so that a wall voltage may be generated at which the polarity at the scanning electrode with respect to the sustaining electrode is the same as that of the initializing pulse applied to the scanning electrode in the initialization period.

Plasma display and its driving method

It is an object of the present invention to provide a plasma display apparatus in which reliable erase discharge is performed and an erroneous discharge is suppressed, even when a discharge sustain period is shortened so as to realize a PDP having high definition. The above object is achieved in the following manner. In the discharge sustain period, a pulse applied in the later part of the discharge sustain period has a larger pulse width than a pulse applied in the earlier part of the discharge period, except for an initial pulse in the discharge sustain period. In addition, a called narrow pulse is applied in an erase period to perform an erase discharge. According to this method, wall voltages in discharge cells at the end of the discharge sustain period are raised to a higher level than in the related art. As a result, reliable erase discharge is performed, and an erroneous discharge is suppressed.

Plasma display apparatus

A plasma display panel with a drive circuit that divides a field into a plurality of sub-fields with each sub-field including a write period, a discharge sustain period and an erase period. In the discharge sustain period at least one of a plurality of pulses applied in a later part of the discharge sustain period has a larger pulse width than a pulse applied in an earlier part of the discharge sustain period and in the erase period, a narrow pulse is applied to a pair of electrodes extending across each of a plurality of discharge cells. The narrow pulse has a pulse height lower than a discharge firing voltage of the plurality of discharge cells and a smaller pulse width than the pulses applied in the discharge sustain period.

Plasma display

Plasma display panel (PDP), PDP display apparatus, and method for driving the PDP. The PDP is a surface discharge AC PDP having a first substrate and a second substrate arranged to face each other with barrier ribs interposed therebetween. A first electrode and a second electrode are arranged on a facing surface of the first substrate so as to extend parallel to each other, and are covered with a dielectric layer. A third electrode is arranged on a facing surface of the second substrate so as to extend orthogonally to the first and second electrodes. A discharge gas is enclosed within a discharge space defined between the interposed barrier ribs. In the above PDP, the discharge gas is a gas mixture containing xenon. The xenon component comprises at least 5 vol % and less than 100 vol %, and has a partial pressure of at least 2 kPa. Furthermore, the gap between the first and second electrodes in the PDP is greater than a height of the discharge space.

AC-type plasma display panel capable of high definition and high brightness image display, and a method of driving the same

It is the object of the invention to provide a PDP apparatus and a driving method that can apply pulses at high speeds and can display high-definition, high-quality images by allowing discharge cells to emit light with high luminance and high efficiency. To achieve the object, the pulse has (i) a first waveform portion where a first voltage, an absolute value of which is no smaller than a discharge start voltage, is applied and (ii) a second waveform portion where a second voltage, an absolute value of which is greater than the absolute value of the first voltage, is applied, the second waveform portion following the first waveform portion, and the second waveform portion starts before a discharge delay time elapses from a start of the first waveform portion. Also to achieve the object, in a PDP having an electrode structure in which each electrode is divided into a plurality of line electrodes, the applied pulse has (i) a first waveform portion where a first voltage, an absolute value of which is no smaller than a discharge start voltage, is applied and (ii) a second waveform portion where a second voltage, an absolute value of which is greater than the absolute value of the first voltage, is applied, the second waveform portion following the first waveform portion.

Plasma display panel device and its drive method

A gas discharge panel having plural pairs of display electrodes disposed so as to extend through a plurality of cells, each pair being formed from a sustain electrode and a scan electrode. The sustain and scan electrodes each include a plurality of line parts, and an aggregate width of the line parts included in the sustain and scan electrodes is in a range of 22% to 48% inclusive of pixel pitch.
