A method for ascertaining volume- or mass-flow of a medium in a pipeline, or measuring tube, of radius (r) via a sound entrainment method, wherein ultrasonic measuring signals are transmitted and/or received along a plurality of defined sound paths (m). During a calibration phase, successive, different flow profiles (v(r)) of a measured medium are established in the pipeline, or in the measuring tube, and wherein, for each flow profile (v(r)), a defined volume flow, or a defined mass flow, is ascertained, wherein, on the basis of measured values (v(r) . . . v(r)) ascertained in the separate measuring paths (m), each flow profile (v(r)) established in the pipeline, or in the measuring tube, is described by a characteristic parameter set (a, . . . , awith n&#x3b5;N) and wherein, for each flow profile (V(r)), on the basis of the defined volume- or mass-flow and on the basis of the measured volume- or mass-flow, a flow-profile-dependent correction factor MF(a, . . . , a) is calculated, and wherein, subsequently in measurement operation, a volume- or mass-flow ascertained via the parameter set (a, . . . , a, with n&#x3b5;N) is corrected with the flow-profile-dependent correction factor MF(a, . . . , a) determined during the calibration phase.

Method for ascertaining volume&#x2014;or mass&#x2014;flow of a medium

An ultrasonic flow measuring device, which determines volume and/or mass flow of a medium in a pipeline, or in a measuring tube. The flow measuring device includes a plurality of ultrasonic sensors, which emit and/or receive ultrasonic measurement signals along defined sound paths. The control/evaluation electronics of the flow measuring device is divided into an on-site electronics, in which at least one switch is provided, via which the ultrasonic sensors, arranged in different sound paths, can be driven and/or queried, and at least one remote, control/evaluation unit, wherein the control/evaluation unit so switches the at least one switch, that the driven and/or queried, ultrasonic sensor, or the driven and/or queried pair of ultrasonic sensors, is activated and provides measured values.

Apparatus for determining and/or monitoring volume and/or mass flow of a medium

In order to be able to couple as great a fraction as possible of ultrasonic measuring signals into a medium to be measured, an ultrasonic sensor is provided with a cup-shape and includes a housing and an oscillatable unit for producing the ultrasonic signals. The oscillatable unit is composed of a plurality of components and is so embodied that it has a node plane, which is oriented essentially perpendicularly to the radiating or receiving direction of the ultrasonic measuring signals. At least a portion of the outer surface of the oscillatable unit is connected with the housing in the region of the node plane of the oscillatable unit.

Cup-shaped ultrasonic transducer for a flowmeter

Flowmeter comprising at least two ultrasonic transducers that are mounted on a container which is penetrated by a medium in a certain direction of flow. The ultrasonic transducers alternately transmit and receive ultrasonic test signals in the direction of flow and counter to the direction of flow. The flowmeter further comprises a control/evaluation unit which determines and/or monitors the volume flow of the medium inside the container based on the difference in the travel time of the ultrasonic test signals propagating in the direction of flow and counter to the direction of flow. The ultrasonic transducers are configured such that they transmit and receive ultrasonic test signals or sound fields having a large aperture angle or a great beam expansion.

Flowmeter mounted on a containment

A clamp-on ultrasonic flow measuring device for determining volume and/or mass flow rate of a medium in a containment. The clamp-on ultrasonic measuring device is of low temperature sensitivity. To this end, the coupling element, through which the ultrasonic measuring signals are coupled into, and/or out of, the containment, has at least two element portions, which are embodied and/or arranged in such a manner that the predetermined in-coupling angle into the containment and/or the predetermined out-coupling angle out of the containment are/is approximately constant over an extended temperature range.

Device for determination and/or monitoring of the volumetric and/or mass flow of a medium and having coupling element including two element portions

An apparatus for the positioning of a clamp-on flow measuring device on a containment, which has a medium flowing through it. The apparatus includes at least two ultrasonic transducers, which emit measuring signals into the containment and/or receive measuring signals from the containment, a positioning unit for the variable positioning of the ultrasonic transducers on the containment, a control/evaluation unit, which calculates from predetermined process and/or system variables a characteristic, desired variable of the measuring signals and which determines on the basis of a comparison of the calculated, desired variable with the corresponding, measured, actual variable, whether the ultrasonic transducers are optimally positioned or whether the position of the ultrasonic transducers need to be changed, and an indicating unit, which indicates to operating personnel a required change of position and/or the direction in which a change of position needs to be made.
