A proximity-fuzed ammunition unit () that can approach a target and where during approach the proximity fuze function effects or gives rise to a voltage pulse pattern that is dependent on objects located along the flight path of the ammunition unit on its approach to the target. The voltage pulse pattern forms the basis for the actution of at least one triggering device () incorporated in the ammunition unit. The electrical circuit or circuits incorporated in or interacting with each triggering device is/are arranged to sense a voltage or amplitude value in the trailing edge of a pulse incorporated in or forming the pattern. If the pattern comprises a number of pulses an indication is given when a predetermined number of pulses has appeared to appears. Each electrical circuit causes or effects the opeation of the triggering device for its actuation depending on the said sensing and/or indication.

Device for a proximity-fuzed unit ammunition

A warhead charge device () arranged to carry liquid explosive (), and which device is for use in an ammunition cargo unit such as a missile. The device incorporates at least two confined spaces () equipped with or, while the function of the device is in operation, capable of receiving liquid explosive () or components thereof via a device such as a pump device arranged to transfer completely or partially the explosive or components thereof from at least the first confined space to the other confined space, or vice versa.

Device for warhead charges for cargo ammunition units

An ammunition unit () designed to he adaptable to different types of targets () or situations. The said ammunition unit comprises cylindrical warhead charges () that confine or form explosive compositions (), on or around the outside of which there are effect layers or casing containing effect elements (). These effect elements together with the explosive compositions () constitute the combatant function. Two or more cylindrical warhead charges () are arranged essentially parallel alongside each other or inside each other. Each of the cylindrical warhead charges comprises effect layers around their cylindrical outer surface that provide different effects in target. The cylindrical warhead charges are rotatably arranged to assume different rotational setting modes, and in each such mode the same type or co-ordinated types of effect layers are directed outwards.

Device for adapting a unit of ammunition for different types of targets and situations

A warhead device comprising explosive charges and effect elements or effect agents for incorporation in a missile. The warhead device consists of a number of modules or modular charges () arranged to be actuatable between two or more pivotal positions in the cross-section of the warhead device. Each module comprises outer walls () that one by one are directed outwards depending on the position or pivotal position assumed by the module. Each outer wall of each module comprises warhead effect elements and/or effect agents that differ from the other warhead effect elements or agents. The outer walls that are directed outwards simultaneously form or are part of the common outer wall of the warhead device, and project a selectable warhead effect from the warhead device.

Modular warhead for units of ammunition such as missiles

A selectable mode multi-mode missile carrying submunitions and incorporating guidance and target seeking functions includes triggering or actuation of the submunitions by programming function on the ground or on board another weapon platform or via a link from the ground or said the weapon platform. The submunitions may also be actuated by an impact function. The programming function incorporates or interacts with mode determining or setting devices that cause the missile and its submunitions to selectively operate either in a penetrator mode, a distributed penetrator mode, or in a separation mode. The submunitions are actuated independently, in sequence, or in common with each other depending upon the operating mode selected.

Cargo unit for submunitions

An ammunition unit, such as a missile, the casing of which contains at least one explosive charge as well as warhead modules arranged in or on the fuselage or casing that comprise a constituent part of the unit's warhead function when the explosive charge is actuated. The warhead effect modules are of modular design, and the various modules are secured to the fuselage or casing by securing devices and/or retention parts. The device includes a range of modules pertaining to different types of warhead effects. When engaging an actual type of target the ammunition unit is assembled with an array of modules-selected from the range of modules-matched to different types of targets or engagement situations, with the array of modules secured to the fuselage or casing by securing devices.

Device with selectable units that are fired or launched

An ammunition device () comprising one or more warhead effect jackets (), each jacket containing warhead effect elements (). The ammunition device also incorporates one or more explosive compositions arranged inside each warhead effect jacket that in or close to the target is/are triggerable by means of a triggering device. One or more separation charges is/are arranged adjacent to each warhead effect jacket that when actuated cause removel of one or more said warhead effect jacket(s). The actuation devices incorporate or interact with a programming device that operates with a first mode that can be an initial mode in which the actuation devices remain non-actuated, and a second mode in which the programming device actuates the actuation devices for initiating the separation charges, thereby causing ejection of each warhead effect jacket concerned.

Unit of ammunition with one or more warhead casings

The present invention relates to a method and a device for combating a pre-determined target with submunitions directed at the target from an airborne carrier in the form of a rocket, missile or equivalent () whereby the submunitions () are of the type whose main effect in target derives from impact with the target. As claimed in the present invention the submunitions () are given both a lateral motion vector () relative to the direction of flight of the carrier and a motion vector () in the direction of flight of the carrier. Jointly these motion vectors give the submunitions a resultant motion vector in a direction () towards the target. When the present invention is used the submunitions () are given the actual combined motion by the rotating magazine () in which they are stowed that rotates up to a high rate around the direction of flight of the carrier () before the submunitions leave the carrier when the centrifugal force gives them their lateral motion vector and they acquire their longitudinal motion vector from the direction of flight of the carrier.

Method and device for dispersing submunitions

A device arranged to enable the engagement of targets () by means of a shaped charge function. An ammunition unit is arranged to operate with at least two configuration modes where in the first mode the ammunition unit comprises solely a first modular charge (). In the second mode the first modular charge is conjoined with a second modular charge (). The modular charges each effect their own type of shaped charge function. Another feature is that the ammunition unit is arranged to enable changeover from the first configuration to the second before firing, launch or release of the ammunition unit.

Device to enable targets to be combated by a shaped charge function

The present invention relates to a segmented subcaliber projectile () subdivisible into a number of separate segments contiguous with each other at least initially to form an integral projectile of united segments or submunitions (). The advantage with this subcaliber projectile is that since the segments or submunitions () are arranged sequentially after each other, each one comprises an explosive charge () initiatable by a very powerful shock and encased in an outer casing () of hard material such that the projectile in integral form can be used directly against heavy armor, and by means of dispersion of the various segments can also be used against aircraft.

Subcalibre kinetic energy projectile

An ammunition unit includes an impact fuse for sensing the hardness of a target and, based on the sensed hardness, triggering a burst inside, at or outside the target. The impact fuze includes a first sensor for sensing soft targets having a first outer cone with a conductive inner surface and a first inner cone surrounded by the first outer cone having a conductive outer surface. These conductive inner surfaces come in contact with each other upon an impact of the ammunition unit against a soft target due to deformation of the outer cone towards the first inner cone. A second impact sensor for sensing hard targets includes a second inner cone with a conductive outer surface and the first inner cone having also a conductive inner surface and surrounding the second inner cone, the first inner cone being deformable or displaceable towards the second inner cone with the conductive surfaces coming into contact with each other upon impact against hard targets, but not during impact against a soft target. The first and second impact sensors are connected to at least one signal-processing circuit, wherein a first activating signal generated by the first sensor causes a delayed activation of an element for effecting triggering of the explosive load of the ammunition unit and a second activating signal generated by the second sensor causes an instantaneous triggering of the explosive load.

Ammunition unit with adaptive impact fuze

A shell case comprising prefabricated fragments (4), preferably of a material with high density, and a supporting material which surrounds the fragments and together with these forms a connected shell which surrounds the explosive of the shell. The supporting material consists of a completely dense non-compressible material which is permanently connected with the pre-fabricated fragments, for instance a hardenable steel. The shell is preferably manufactured by a powder metallurgical procedure in which the supporting material in the form of a metal powder together with the pre-fabricated fragments (4) are pressed under high all-round pressure and high temperature into a dense compact jacket.

An explosive shell case of the kind in which fragments are produced by bursting of the case material into a number of small particles. The case material comprises a completely dense, non-compressible material which is made with embrittling zones (4) which when the shell bursts gives fragments of a predetermined shape. The case is preferably manufactured powder-metallurgically, the embrittling zones then being formed by filling at predetermined intervals with powder with the embrittling component. The case is then pressed under high all-round pressure and high temperature into a dense, compact jacket and is imparted its final properties through heat treatment.
