The present invention relates to a process for preparing phosgene by reacting chlorine with carbon monoxide over an activated carbon catalyst, wherein the content of chlorine oxides in the chlorine feed stream is low, to an apparatus for preparation of phosgene and to the use of the phosgene prepared by the process of the invention.

Method for producing phosgene

A process for preparing an aromatic polyamine mixture including 4,4'-methylenedi(phenylamine) and higher homologues of MDA is provided. The process includes steps of (i) reaction of aniline with formaldehyde by means of an acid catalyst to form a crude product mixture (I), (ii) neutralization of the crude product mixture (I) and removal of the salts formed; (iii) isolation of aniline; (iv) distillation of the resulting crude product mixture so as to separate off (iv-1) a mixture (II) of MDA isomers (II-1) containing from 8 to 20% by weight of 4,4&#x2032;-methylenedi(phenylamine) and not more than 0.3% by weight of secondary components (II-2) and (iv-2) a low boiler mixture of at least 55% by weight of secondary components (II-2) and MDA isomers (II-1); and (v) recirculation of the mixture (II).

The present invention relates to gas phase phosgenation of amines for preparation of isocyanates. In the present invention, phosgene is prepared by reacting chlorine with an excess of carbon monoxide in a gas phase. The obtained phosgene-containing reaction mixture is divided into two streams by a thermal and/or a membrane separating process. The first stream is a low-carbon monoxide stream of no more than 1% by weight of carbon monoxide, based on a total weight of the first stream. The second stream is a carbon monoxide-rich stream of more than 10% by weight of carbon monoxide, based on a total weight of the second stream. Process and apparatus for preparing isocyanates

The invention relates to a process for preparing isocyanates by reacting the corresponding amines with phosgene in the gas phase, if appropriate in the presence of an inert medium, in which the amine and the phosgene are first mixed and converted to the isocyanate in a reactor, by cooling a reaction gas which comprises isocyanate and hydrogen chloride and leaves the reactor in a quench by adding a liquid quench medium to obtain a mixture of reaction gas and quench medium. The amount of quench medium added is such that the temperature of the mixture of reaction gas and quench medium which is established in the quench is above the dew point of the gas present in the quench.

The invention provides a multistage process for continuously preparing organic polyisocyanates, preferably diisocyanates, more preferably aliphatic or cycloaliphatic diisocyanates, by reaction of the corresponding organic polyamines with carbonic acid derivatives and alcohols into monomeric polyurethanes of low molecular mass, and the dissociation of said polyurethanes. The invention further provides an associated preparation process in which at certain reaction stages the polyisocyanates prepared and unutilizable residues are removed and reusable by-products and intermediates are recycled to preliminary stages.
