A support body for an apparatus having an extended nip formed between the support body and a counter-pressure member, having a working surface, being elastically deformable, and comprising a plurality of pressure chambers pressurized for controlled expanding in the direction of the working surface in order to load the nip. According to the invention the support body comprises a plurality of reinforcing profiles disposed in at least one chamber of the pressure chambers, the interiors of the profiles being in fluid communication with one another via holes, a wall of the profile facing said working surface including holes for communicating fluid between the interior of the profile and the chamber in which said profile is located, said profiles providing an inner support to walls defining said at least one chamber.

A support body for an apparatus having an extended nip that is defined by a contact surface of the support body and an opposed surface, the support body having two side surfaces facing from each other and connecting to the contact surface, and a bottom surface facing from the contact surface, the support body being arranged to be moved towards the opposite surface by means of a loading system in order to load the nip via the contact surface. The support body is elastically deformable and has its contact surface adaptable to the opposite surface in interaction therewith. A method of forming an extended nip in an apparatus includes loading the support body by means of a loading system, and a method of controlling the load in the extended nip includes designing the support body with at least two layers with different elasticity providing a corresponding load profile.

A support body for an apparatus having an extended nip defined between a contact surface of an elastically deformable support body and an opposed surface, the support body comprising a pressure chamber or several pressure chambers arranged to be pressurized for loading the nip via the contact surface. The support body can be provided with a holding device that forms a counter support for the pressure chamber or pressure chambers except at the side facing the contact surface. A method of forming the extended nip in the apparatus entails applying a pressure in at least one pressure chamber of the support body and expanding elastically deformable side portions of the support body. A further method of controlling the load in the extended nip entails designing the support body with several pressure chambers and setting the pressures in the pressure chambers in accordance with a predetermined pattern.

A reel shaft for reeling a paper web in a reel-up, which reel-up includes at least one unit that is mobile in the longitudinal direction of the paper machine and supports a pair of opposite engagement members each of which includes an engagement part, which engagement parts are arranged for rotatably carrying and detachably engaging the reel shaft during reeling. In accordance with the invention, the reel shaft is free of a support shaft and has a self-supporting, tubular sleeve substantially formed of fiber-reinforced plastic, which sleeve has an envelope surface on which the initial wrapping of the paper web shall be performed, and also an internal surface defining an axial channel terminating in axial openings at the ends of the reel shaft. The invention also relates to a reel-up for such reel shafts.

A method of ensuring the flatness of a vane that is mounted in a headbox by means of a mounting arrangement including engagement dowels for cooperation with a downstream support wall of a transverse groove, said vane being affected during operation by shearing forces from the stock and by retaining forces from the mounting arrangement. In accordance with the invention outer engagement dowels are mounted at the side edges of the vane to cooperate during a specific period of time, as the only engagement dowels with the downstream support wall in order to take up said shearing forces, whereby tensile stresses will arise in the downstream end portion of the vane in the cross machine direction. The invention also relates to a headbox having such a mounting arrangement and the mounting arrangement per se in which the vane within and downstream of an inner area of the upstream end portion of the vane is arranged to move freely in the machine direction in relation to said downstream support wall during said period of time.

A vibration-minimizing suspension mechanism for a press roll is provided. The press roll and an opposing roll each having a rotational axis and cooperate to form a press nip for imparting a linear load on a web passing therethrough. The linear load is oriented through the rotational axes of the press and opposing rolls. The suspension mechanism comprises a suspension arm having opposed ends and a medially-disposed pivot, wherein the rotational axis of the press roll is rotatably engaged with one of the opposed ends. The suspension arm is pivotably and adjustably mounted at the pivot to allow the pivot to be adjusted in substantially parallel relation to the linear load. The adjustable pivot thereby allowing a mounting line, defined by the pivot and the rotational axis of the press roll, to be maintained in substantially perpendicular orientation to the linear load to thereby minimize vibration in the press roll.

Suspension arrangement for a roll

A vibration-minimizing suspension mechanism for a press roll is provided. The press roll and an opposing roll each having a rotational axis and cooperate to form a press nip adapted to impart a linear load on a fiber web passing therethrough. The linear load is oriented through the rotational axes of the press roll and the opposing roll. As such, the suspension mechanism comprises a suspension arm having opposed ends and a medially-disposed pivot, wherein the press roll is rotatably engaged at the rotational axis thereof with one of the opposed ends of the suspension arm. The suspension arm is further pivotably and adjustably mounted at the pivot so as to allow the pivot to be adjusted in substantially parallel relation to the linear load. The adjustability of the pivot thereby allowing a mounting line along the suspension arm, the mounting line being defined by the pivot and the rotational axis of the press roll, to be maintained in substantially perpendicular orientation to the linear load to thereby minimize vibration in the press roll.

A creping doctor (2) for creping a soft paper web (3) off a yankee cylinder (1) is described which comprises a supporting beam (4) disposed close to the envelope surface of the yankee cylinder (1) and provided with an internal space, the internal space being divided into a first longitudinal suction chamber (24) and a second longitudinal suction chamber (25). The creping doctor also produces a subatmospheric pressure in the suction chambers (24, 25); a first suction connection (18, 19, 21) connecting the first suction chamber (24) of the supporting beam (4) to an external dust-generating space (7) located between the doctor blade (6) and the soft paper web (3) creped off; and a second suction connection (40, 42, 43) connecting the second suction chamber (25) of the supporting beam (4) with an internal dust-generating space (8) located between the doctor blade (6) and the envelope surface of the yankee cylinder (1). According to the invention the creping doctor is provided with blowing means (50, 51, 58) for intermittent cleaning of the suction connections (18, 19, 21; 40, 42, 43) and suction chambers (24, 25) from dust deposited therein during operation.

A creping doctor (2) for creping a soft paper web (3) off a yankee cylinder (1) is described which comprises a supporting beam (4) disposed close to the envelope surface of the yankee cylinder (1) and provided with an internal space, the internal space of the supporting beam (4) is divided into a first longitudinal suction chamber (24) and a second longitudinal suction chamber (25). The creping doctor also produces a subatmospheric pressure in the suction chambers (24, 25); a first suction connection (18, 19, 21) connecting the first suction chamber (24) of the supporting beam (4) to an external dust-generating space (7) located between the doctor blade (6) and the soft paper web (3) creped off; and a second suction connection (40, 42, 43) connecting the second suction chamber (25) of the supporting beam (4) with an internal dust-generating space (8) located between the doctor blade (6) and the envelope surface of the yankee cylinder (1).
