There is provided an edge-on x-ray detector configured for detecting incoming x-rays. The edge-on x-ray detector includes a plurality of adjacent x-ray sensors, and each x-ray sensor is oriented edge-on to incoming x-rays. The x-ray sensors are arranged side-by-side and/or lined up one after the other, and the interspacing between the x-ray sensors is at least partly filled with a gap filling material including a mixture or compound of resin and metal disulfide.

There is provided an x-ray detector having a number of x-ray detector sub-modules. Each detector sub-module is an edge-on detector sub-module having an array of detector elements extending in at least two directions, wherein one of the directions has a component in the direction of incoming x-rays. The detector sub-modules are stacked one after the other and/or arranged side-by-side. For at least part of the detector sub-modules, the detector sub-modules are arranged for providing a gap between adjacent detector sub-modules, where at least part of the gap is not directed linearly towards the x-ray focal point of an x-ray source.

X-ray detector system design

Three-dimensional imaging of a breast tissue is achieved by acquiring a series of X-ray projection images from various angles. A three-dimensional image constructed from the projection images by a computer provides information to the operator to select a coordinate point within the breast from which to obtain a biopsy sample. Acquisition of projection images and construction of three-dimensional images is continued during the insertion of the needle into the breast, during positioning the needle towards the coordinate point, during the sampling and after the sampling. The advantages of utilizing tomosynthesis for breast tissue imaging over stereo imaging include better image quality, easier coordinate measurements within a tissue, ease of use of the equipment by the medical personnel, and fewer image artifact problems.

Method and arrangement relating to x-ray imaging

A photon-counting detector includes a first subset of detector modules and at least one second subset of detector modules. Each detector module has power-consuming circuitry. Power-consuming circuitry of detector modules in the first subset is configured, in an operational mode in which the detector modules are powered on, to consume a first amount of power. Correspondingly, power-consuming circuitry of detector modules in the at least one second subset is configured, in the operational mode, to consume a second amount of power that is lower than the first amount of power.

Photon counting detector

The present invention relates to mammography, e.g. tomosynthesis mammography. In order to provide a mammography X-ray imaging with improved data quality, a mammography X-ray imaging system () for tomosynthesis mammography is provided that comprises an X-ray source (), an X-ray detector (), a support structure (), and a breast support () with a breast support surface (). The X-ray source and the X-ray detector are mounted on an upwardly extending scan arm (); the X-ray source is mounted on the scan arm above the breast support and the X-ray detector is mounted below the breast support. The scan arm is movably mounted to the support structure to perform a swivelling motion about a rotation axis () located below the breast support. During the swivelling motion, the scan arm swivels about the rotation axis such that the X-ray source and the X-ray detector perform a scan motion and an object on the breast support is radiated from different angular directions. A motion adapting mechanism () is provided that, during the scan motion, moves the X-ray detector along an adapted trajectory () that follows the breast support surface. In an example, the adapted trajectory is in alignment with the breast support surface.

Scanning mammography X-ray system with movement adaption mechanism

Disclosed is an edge-on photon counting detector and a method for manufacturing a charge collecting side of such detector. The edge-on photon counting detector includes a semi-conducting substrate. The semi-conducting substrate includes, a first end adapted to face an x-ray source and a second end opposite the first end in the direction of incoming x-rays, and at least one strip having N depth segments, N&#x2265;2, each of the depth segments including a charge collecting metal electrode and a charge collecting side including doped regions and insulating regions, wherein each of the charge collecting metal electrodes is arranged over a corresponding doped region and is connected to a respective routing trace arranged on the insulating regions, the respective routing trace being adapted to conduct signals from the charge collecting metal electrode to a read-out pad E, connectable to front-end electronics, arranged at the second end.

Detector for x-ray imaging

According to one embodiment, the x-ray apparatus includes an x-ray source adapted to emit an x-ray beam and a detector adapted to receive the x-ray beam of the x-ray source. The x-ray source is adapted to be moved in relation to a first portion of the x-ray apparatus and the detector is adapted to be moved in relation to a first portion of the x-ray apparatus. A control unit controls the movement of the x-ray source and detector. The x-ray source and the detector are adapted to rotate in relation to a first portion of the x-ray apparatus. Further, the x-ray beam is directed essentially towards the detector during the movement of the x-ray source and the detector.

Field limiting device synchronized with scan motion

According to one embodiment, the x-ray apparatus comprises an x-ray source adapted to emit an x-ray beam, a detector adapted to receive the x-ray beam of the x-ray source, wherein the x-ray source is adapted to be moved in relation to a first portion of the x-ray apparatus, wherein the detector is adapted to be moved in relation to a first portion of the x-ray apparatus, the x-ray apparatus further comprising a control unit for controlling the movement of the x-ray source and detector, wherein the x-ray source and the detector are adapted to rotate in relation to a first portion of the x-ray apparatus, wherein further the x-ray beam is directed essentially towards the detector during the movement of the x-ray source and the detector.

Adapting a scan motion in an x-ray imaging apparatus

The present invention relates to a compression arrangement for use in an x-ray imaging apparatus, the arrangement comprising a compression paddle and an actuator for displacing said compression paddle in a distance, said paddle having an extension direction substantially transverse to an object insertion direction. The actuator is operatively arranged to incline said paddle along said extension direction.

Compression arrangement

A shielding arrangement for an x-ray apparatus, preferably for mammography examination is disclosed, and comprises at least an x-ray source, a collimator arrangement and a detector assembly, whereby the collimator is arranged between the x-ray source and the detector assembly and through which x-rays pass. The shielding arrangement, at least partly made of x-ray blocking material and provided for blocking, scattering and/or reflecting x-rays is arranged, at least partly, in a space between the x-ray source and collimator.

X-ray protection device

A novel X-ray apparatus is provided for three-dimensional imaging and in particular for tomosynthesis examination, which includes an X-ray source having a focal spot, a collimator including a plurality of slits, a detector assembly including a plurality of line detectors corresponding to respective ones of the plurality of slits and an exposure volume arranged between the collimator and the detector assembly. The X-ray source, the collimator and the detector assembly are arranged in series, so that each line detector is aligned with the corresponding collimator slit and the focal spot, and is simultaneously displaceable by a scan motion relative to the exposure volume. The scan motion is primarily a rotation around a rotation axis arranged such that the detector assembly is situated essentially between the rotation axis and the X-ray source. Combined two and three-dimensional examination are also permitted according to the disclosed methods and apparatus.
