A method implemented in a user equipment (UE) includes connecting to a WLAN access point. The method further includes constructing a domain name for a packet system network, the domain name including network partition information for the packet system network. The method further includes transmitting, to a DNS server via the WLAN access point, the constructed domain name. The method further includes receiving, from the server, at least one address corresponding to a network node associated with the network partition information.

Methods and devices for selecting network partition in untrusted WLAN access

A core network node identifies a non-USIM based authentication procedure to be utilized by a wireless communication device, WCD, being served by the core network node. The node obtains a session key associated with the identified non-USIM based authentication procedure. The method further includes determining whether the received message corresponds to one or more network partitions based at least in part on the partition selection information. A method and arrangement for enabling access to a home device in a private network from a remote device located outside the private network. The private network includes a multimedia gateway connected to a multimedia service network. A session invite message is sent from the remote device to the multimedia gateway. In response, connection parameters of a residential gateway in the private network are sent to the remote device, which are associated with the selected home device if a home device identification was included in the received message, or with a proxy function in the multimedia gateway capable of providing home device information, if no such identification was included in the received message. In this way, home devices in the private network can be easily and safely accessed remotely.

Method and arrangement for enabling multimedia communication with a private network

A method and arrangement in a multimedia gateway connected to a multimedia service network, for providing access to multimedia services for communication devices connected to a private network. The multimedia gateway may include a device database, a communication unit and a logic unit. A service identity is associated with the multimedia gateway and is valid in the multimedia service network. When a session request is received, a session is established on behalf of at least one device in the private network using said service identity and capabilities of said at least one device. Thereby, no individual service identity is necessary for the selected device(s). If the session request is a session invitation of an incoming request, said at least one device is selected based on capability requirements for the session.

Method and arrangement for enabling multimedia communication

A method of ordering the delivery of a unicast media stream to a second client terminal coupled to an IP Multimedia Subsystem network is described. The method comprises first sending a unicast media order from a first client terminal to an application server of said IP Multimedia Subsystem network. A Session Initiation Protocol INVITE message is then sent from the application server to said second client in response to receipt of said order, the INVITE message containing a media Universal Resource Locator identifying a media source. The Universal Resource Locator is used to exchange Real Time Streaming Protocol signalling between the second client terminal and the application server to initiate and control delivery of the media.

A method and IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) gateway for establishing a unicast media session between a media receiver and a media source in an IMS network via a Network Address Translation (NAT) function acting on behalf of the media receiver. A media source controller in the IMS sends a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) INVITE message to the media receiver to identify the media source. The media receiver obtains NAT bindings for the unicast media session, and the session is established between the media receiver and the media source.

In a network terminals communicate wirelessly through gateway devices with an access node. In the access node an original media access control (MAC) address of a terminal is mapped to a unique, locally administered virtual MAC address for the terminal. This virtual MAC address has a particular portion indicating a unit-specific use including fields that indicate a port index for the gateway device through which the respective terminal communicates with the access node, and an MAC index for the original media access control address of the terminal.

A method and apparatus for establishing a Quality of Service QoS in an access network for a multimedia session between a home network and a remote device located outside the home network. At least one of the remote device and the home network is connected to the access network. When a session invite message is received from the remote device for device discovery in the home network, a default QoS is enforced in the access network. When a session re-invite message is received from the remote device for media communication with a selected home device in the home network, the QoS requirements are determined for the media communication based on session parameters exchanged during the setup of the media communication. An updated QoS is then enforced for the session in the access network based on the determined QoS requirements.

Method and apparatus for remote access to a home network

An arrangement and method for relieving the traffic load on an edge node in a broadband Ethernet-based access network, which normally employs traffic separation such that all traffic is routed via the edge node. Peer-to-peer traffic between end users places a large burden on the capacity of the edge node. The edge node identifies peer-to-peer traffic and generates address conversion information for access nodes connected to the end users concerned. The access nodes identify packets forming part of the peer-to-peer connection, modify address information to conceal the address of the source end user from the destination end user, and vice versa, and reroute the packets through the access network to the destination end user without passing through the edge node.

Traffic diversion in an ethernet-based access network

A system and method are described for integrating a fiber optic fixed access network and a fiber optic radio access network. At least one radio unit transmits and receives communications with at least one mobile unit. A first multiplexer transmits and receives the communications with the at least one radio unit and fixed access communications with at least one fixed access subscriber. The first multiplexer is connected to each of the at least one radio unit and to each of the at least one fixed access subscriber using fiber optic connections. Each of the at least one radio unit transmits and receives the communications with the first multiplexer using a wavelength that is different for each of the at least one radio unit and different from that used to transmit and receive the fixed access communications from the at least one fixed access subscriber. The communications and the fixed access communications are transmitted and received together between the first multiplexer and a second multiplexer through the fiber optic fixed access network using the different wavelengths.
