Disclosed herein is a composition comprising at least one polymyxin or a salt thereof represented by formula (I) wherein Ris an aliphatic linear or branched C-Cacyl group, or (I') Ris &#x2014;CH(CH), &#x2014;CHCH(CH), &#x2014;CH(CH)CHCH, or &#x2014;CHCH; Ris &#x2014;CH(CH), &#x2014;CHCH(CH), or &#x2014;CH(CH)CHCH; each of R, R, R, Rand Ris either &#x2014;(CH)CHNHor &#x2014;(CH)CHN(CHSOM); wherein x is 0 or 1; wherein M is a monovalent cation; and wherein at least three of R, R, R, Rand Rare &#x2014;(CH)CHN(CHSOM).
