The invention provides a vertical turret lathe capable of preventing an inner diameter turning tool attached to a turret tool rest from interfering with a workpiece during machining of the outer diameter of the workpiece. The vertical turret lathe comprises a work table that holds a workpiece Wand rotates, and a working headhaving a turret tool restand capable of moving in X-axis and Z-axis directions. A tool holderfor holding an inner diameter turning tool Tvia hydraulic pressure is attached to a part of the tool supporting portionsof the turret tool rest. The automatic tool changer apparatusincludes a turret-type tool magazineand pistonsand, which mechanically press the pinsandof the tool holderand clamp or unclamp the tool T.

Vertical turret lathe

A multitasking workpiece machining apparatus includes a pair of workpiece support devices supporting an elongated workpiece, first and second headstocks at positions outside of the workpiece support devices. The second headstock is capable of moving closer to and apart from the first headstock. Each workpiece support device respectively includes a travel drive device traveling between the first and second headstocks. A numerical control unit controls travel of each workpiece support device by synchronously controlling each travel drive device.
