The negative electrode includes: an electrically conductive layer having a surface; and lithium metal pieces arranged spaced from each other on the surface of the electrically conductive layer. There is no lithium metal on an imaginary line extending from a first end to a second end opposite to the first end of the surface of the electrically conductive layer and traversing a space between the lithium metal pieces.

Lithium secondary battery including lithium metal as negative electrode active material

A lithium secondary battery includes: a positive electrode; a negative electrode including a negative electrode collector having a surface, on which a lithium metal is deposited during charge; a separator disposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode; and a nonaqueous electrolyte solution filled between the positive electrode and the negative electrode. The negative electrode collector includes projection portions projecting from the surface toward the separator. There is no projection portion on an imaginary line extending from a first end to a second end opposite to the first end of the surface of the negative electrode collector and traversing a space between the projection portions.

A lithium metal secondary battery includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a solid electrolyte, and a soft electrolyte. The negative electrode includes a negative electrode current collector having at least one hole, in which lithium metal is deposited in a charged state. The present invention provides: a non-aqueous electrolyte for an electrochemical device, having ion conductivity sufficient for practical use and capable of improving energy density; a method for producing the same; and an electrochemical device using the same. The alkaline earth metal chloride is dissolved in an amount of 0.015 mol or more relative to 1 mol of the non-aqueous solvent. The total content of the non-aqueous solvent and the alkaline earth metal chloride is 70 mass % or more in the non-aqueous electrolyte.

Disclosed is a high-capacity electrochemical energy storage device in which a conversion reaction proceeds as the oxidation-reduction reaction, and the separation (hysteresis) between the electrode potentials for oxidation and reduction is small. The electrochemical energy storage device includes a first electrode including a first active material, a second electrode including a second active material, and a non-aqueous electrolyte interposed between the first and second electrodes. At least one of the first and second active materials is a metal salt having a polyatomic anion and a metal ion, and the metal salt is capable of oxidation-reduction reaction involving reversible release and acceptance of the polyatomic anion.

A non-aqueous electrolyte is provided that includes a non-aqueous solvent and an electrolyte salt, wherein the non-aqueous solvent contains a fluorinated ether (1) represented by the following Formula: HCFCFCFCH&#x2014;O&#x2014;CFCFH (1). A non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery is produced using a non-aqueous electrolyte including: a non-aqueous solvent that primarily contains a solvent mixture of ethylene carbonate and propylene carbonate and includes a fluorine-substituted ether having a divalent group represented by a formula: &#x2014;CFX&#x2014;CH(CH)&#x2014;O&#x2014;, where X is a hydrogen atom or fluorine atom, in a molecule thereof; and a lithium salt that is dissolved in the non-aqueous solvent. The non-aqueous electrolyte has favorable wettability towards a polyolefin separator, and improves the cycle characteristics and the load characteristics of the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery.

An electrochemical energy storage device includes a negative electrode which contains a carbon material and has a negative electrode potential of 1.4 V or less relative to a lithium reference when being charged, and a non-aqueous electrolyte solution prepared by dissolving a lithium salt, an ammonium salt, and at least one kind of fluorinated benzene selected among hexafluorobenzene, pentafluorobenzene, 1,2,3,4-tetrafluorobenzene, 1,2,3,5-tetrafluorobenzene, 1,2,4,5-tetrafluorobenzene and 1,2,3-trifluorobenzene, in a non-aqueous solvent.

The non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery of the present invention includes a positive electrode containing a lithium-containing transition metal oxide as a positive electrode active material, a negative electrode, a separator interposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode and a non-aqueous electrolyte. The non-aqueous electrolyte includes a non-aqueous solvent and a solute dissolved therein, and the non-aqueous solvent includes a solvent having an electron-withdrawing substituent. A non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery of the present invention includes a positive electrode including an active material absorbing and desorbing lithium ions, a negative electrode including an active material absorbing and desorbing lithium ions, a separator interposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, and a non-aqueous electrolyte. The separator includes a material containing a substituent group with electron-withdrawing property. The non-aqueous electrolyte includes a non-aqueous solvent and a solute dissolved therein, and the non-aqueous solvent includes at least one selected from the group consisting of a fluorine-containing aromatic solvent, a fluorine-containing cyclic carbonic acid ester, and a fluorine-containing cyclic carboxylic acid ester. The combination of the foregoing separator and the foregoing non-aqueous electrolyte makes it possible to suppress the deterioration in the rate performance of the battery even when the battery is stored under high voltage and high temperature.

The present invention relates to a nonaqueous electrolyte for electrochemical devices, and to electric double-layer capacitor and secondary battery using the said nonaqueous electrolyte. The nonaqueous electrolyte according to the present invention comprises a room temperature molten salt and a fluorohydrocarbon. The nonaqueous electrolyte is flame resistant and can suppress the rise in its viscosity. Therefore, high quality electrochemical devices can be obtained by using the nonaqueous electrolyte. The electric double-layer capacitor according to the present invention comprises a pair of polarizable electrode plates, a separator interposed between the pair of electrode plates, and the inventive nonaqueous electrolyte. The secondary battery according to the present invention comprises a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a separator interposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, and a nonaqueous electrolyte, wherein the nonaqueous electrolyte comprises the inventive nonaqueous electrolyte, and further comprises a lithium salt and a cyclic carbonate.
