An embodiment generally relates to systems and methods for electronically auto-filing and retrieving erasable paper document documents configured for ultraviolet (UV) imaging. A device can automatically generate an electronic version of the erasable paper document and store the electronic version in a database. A user can search the database for the electronic version with identification information associated with the erasable paper document, upon which the systems and methods can retrieve the electronic version of the erasable paper document for the user. The electronic version of the erasable paper document can be re-rendered either as a new erasable paper document, for display to the user, or other renderings.

Systems and methods for electronically auto-filing and retrieving reversible write eraseable paper documents

An embodiment generally relates to systems and methods for electronically auto-filing and retrieving erasable paper document documents configured for ultraviolet (UV) imaging. A device can embed a machine readable code on an erasable paper document, or can detect a machine readable code preprinted on the document. An electronic version of the erasable paper document along with the machine readable code can be stored in a database. When the machine readable code is later detected on a rendered document, the electronic version corresponding to the machine readable code can be retrieved from storage. The erasable paper document can be re-rendered using the retrieved electronic version either as a new erasable paper document, for display to the user, or other renderings.

Systems and methods for using machine readable codes to store and retrieve reversible write eraseable paper documents

A user of an image forming device selects from among a plurality of pre-stored color rendition dictionaries (CRDs) in order that a set of system process parameter setpoints associated with that CRD may be referenced to bias and/or skew an available color gamut in the direction of a particular nominally out-of-gamut color which the user wishes to produce in a color image output by the image forming device. A capability is included in a color image forming device store and/or update multiple sets of special process parameter setpoints defining a plurality of CRDs each of which may be identified and associated with a specific color in order that requests to print out-of-gamut colors may be satisfied routinely as exceptions to a nominal gamut based on a nominal set of stored setpoints when a CRD is selected and the setpoints associated with that CRD are input for reference by the color image forming device on a temporary basis.

Systems and methods for printing images outside a normal color gamut in image forming devices

A color management system is provided for enabling imaging of selected colors called spot colors that document dynamically adjusting the normal printer gamut to achieve extended colors. Developed mass may be increased or decreased by changing set points such as a photoreceptor roll charge, development bias or raster output scanner laser power.

Spot color printing with non-standard gamuts achieved with process set point adjustment

An image processing system such as a multi-function device (MFD) with an 'e-reader' mode is disclosed. The e-reader mode can be activated by a user from the MFD user interface, or automatically detected by the system if the mode is set to 'auto.' Once in e-reader mode, the system automatically locates the area corresponding to the e-reader screen, crops it, de-skews it when necessary, and enhances the image. In addition, N-Up (printing several pages of content on one physical page) may be applied if users desire. The enhancement adjusts background color, boosts the contrast, and de-blurs the image when necessary. Two embodiments of enhancement are presented. The first one performs Tone Reproduction Curve (TRC) adjustment and possible de-blurring on the entire screen area. The second one segments the screen area into three kinds of objects (text/picture/background). Different TRCs are applied to enhance the objects.

Image processing system with electronic book reader mode

An automatic gray balance control system to produce TRCs for all primary colors in a reproduction device and for each pitch of a photoreceptor system by printing target patches for each pitch, measuring the output colors, and automatically readjusting the tone reproduction curves until a satisfactory level of accuracy is obtained as compared to the theoretical desired output. The system produces pitch-based gray balanced TRCs that are updated frequently for each pitch, with different TRCs for different pitches, to ensure consistency in output from pitch to pitch as well as from page to page on a given pitch.

Pitch to pitch online gray balance calibration with dynamic highlight and shadow controls

A marking engine forms one or more toned patches and/or images on a photoreceptor transfer device such as a photoreceptor belt or drum, either within or outside a main image area. A sensor illuminates the tones patches and/or images on the photoreceptor transfer device using wavelengths outside the photo response range of the photoreceptor transfer device, thereby allowing reflectance values for each toned patch and/or image to be measured without generating ghost images on the photoreceptor transfer device. The sensor supports collection of measured reflectance values from single-color, mixed-color; and multi-separation image-on-image toned patches and/or images directly from the photoreceptor transfer device at rates as high as one or more times per revolution of the photoreceptor transfer device. The measured reflectance values may be used to generate and/or update color stabilization tone reproduction curves.

Color sensor to measure single separation, mixed color or IOI patches

Provided is a method for enabling accurate and consistent imaging of selected colors within a document for various printing device configurations utilizing an automated spot color editor. The method includes determining appropriate target values for a selected color within a print job. The automated spot color editor modifies or adjusts the selected color by selecting a quality level, in the form of a color difference metric, and a maximum number of iterations, which is the maximum number of times the automated spot color editor is operated to calculate a CMYK color formula. Sample patch(es) are printed and analyzed for the selected target value and a CMYK color formula based on the color composition of the sample patch is calculated. The CMYK color formula is inserted into a spot color editing table. Through a graphical user interface, an operator may review the color formula for acceptance.

System and method for automated spot color editor

An algorithmic method is identified for compensating for thermochromaticity errors in insitu spectral color measurements of a color printing device. A difference is mapped between spectral measurements of a printed color generated by the color printing device measured at a first or hot temperature and at a second or cool ambient temperature where the mapping comprises a referenceable characteristic of the color printing device. The spectrophotometric measurement of a hot color is compared with colors obtained with thermochromaticity compensation matrix to assess if the measured color corresponds to the desired color which will result when cooled to ambient temperature.

Method and system for compensating for thermochromaticity differences in inline spectrophotometers

A printer or other marking engine includes a marking material transfer device, such as a photoreceptor drum or belt, that includes a plurality of pitches. Each pitch receives an individual color of marking material and conveys the marking material to a substrate. The marking engine forms a desired image in a main image area of the substrate using marking material from one or more of the pitches, and produces a target patch pattern for each of the pitches in a margin area located outside the main image area. A measuring device such as a spectrophotometer is used to measure each target patch pattern, and based on the measured values, an individual color calibration is performed for each pitch for use in a subsequent marking operation. The color calibration may include generating or modifying a tone reproduction curve for each pitch based on the measured values. The margin area may be later trimmed off, thereby removing the portion of the substrate on which the target patch pattern is formed.

Pitch to pitch online gray balance calibration

To determine the spectra of objects that have different degrees of fluorescence, a plurality of reference databases are provided, each reference database being suited to a different degree of fluorescence. A most appropriate one of the reference databases is selected based on a predicted degree of fluorescence of an object for which a reflectance spectrum is to be determined. The prediction of the degree of fluorescence may be based on user input, or may be predicted by using a priori information, such as a priori knowledge of media types.

Systems and methods for selecting a reference database for determining a spectrum of an object based on fluorescence of the object

Spectrophotometer color measurement with a target illumination system and a reflected illumination sensing system where the target surface is variably spaced from said spectrophotometer. Color correction calibration information corresponding to color measurements for known different spacings of a test target surface from the spectrophotometer are obtained and stored. In use, the spacing of the actual target surface from the spectrophotometer is measured to provide a target spacing information signal. That signal is automatically combined with the stored color correction calibration information for the corresponding distances to provide at least partial correction of color measurement errors of the spectrophotometer for variable spacing of the target surface relative to the spectrophotometer even with low cost fixed focus optics. The spectrophotometer output can be so corrected by changing the target illumination, such as by LED pulse width changes, and/or by corrective adjustment of the measured reflectances.

Spectrophotometer target distance variation compensation

An LED spectrophtometer device for determining an aspect of the color of an object may include: a visible spectrophotometer comprising a plurality of light emitting diodes that emit light in the visible spectrum onto the object; at least one detector for detecting said light after being directed onto the object and for generating an output; and a UV light emitting diode assembly that emits light in the near ultraviolet spectrum and communicates with at least one detector for generating an output. The device may further include a processor that combines the outputs of the at least one detector of the visible spectrophotometer and the at least one detector in communication with the UV light emitting diode assembly.

Systems and methods for augmenting spectral range of an LED spectrophotometer

An improved and lower cost color spectrophotometer, especially suitable for an on-line color printer color control system, in which plural different spectra LEDs sequentially perpendicularly illuminate a common and substantially circularly illuminated color test area, which may be variably spaced and variably oriented relative to the spectrophotometer, through a common central lens system, and also the reflected illumination therefrom may be measured at 45 degrees thereto by averaging the outputs of photodetectors spaced around that circularly illuminated color test area, to provide reduced sensitivity to the variable angular or azimuthal orientation of the color test area relative to the spectrophotometer, and which photodetectors may be so illuminated by 1:1 optics for spatial insensitivity.
