A device for the safe discharge of a superconducting magnet coil (4) which is located inside a cryostat (2) and superconductively short-circuited by a superconducting switch (7) providing at or in the cryostat (2) a transmitter (10) of electromagnetic energy being located at a temperature level considerably above the cryogenic temperature of the superconducting magnet coil (4), which transmitter can be switched on quickly from outside, and by arranging in the region of the superconducting switch (7) at the cryogenic temperature level of the superconducting magnet coil (4) a receiver (20) for the emitted electromagnetic energy, which transmits the received energy directly or indirectly to a heating device (15) of the superconducting switch (7) or which activates an auxiliary energy source (41) in the region of the superconducting switch (7) , which on its turn effects a heating of the superconducting switch (7), so that it becomes normal-conducting and causes a discharge process of the superconducting magnet coil (4) via resistors (18) and/or diodes (19), being located at the cryogenic temperature level, there being no electrically conducting connection between transmitter (10; 10') and receiver (20). In this way, the magnet can be discharged without contact.

Apparatus and method for the rapid discharge of a superconducting magnet

Apparatus and method for the rapid discharge of superconducting magnet

A resonator which is arranged on a hollow cylindrical support (1) for the taking of high resolution magnetic nuclear resonance spectra from a sample extending along the cylinder axis within the resonator, and having a shielding (2) which defines the sensitive region of the resonator axially along a certain length which is shorter than the axial extent of the support (1), is characterized in that the resonator is configured as an axially symmetric bird-cage resonator. It only produces static field distortions in its sensitive region which are easily correctable, has an improved fill-factor and reduced ohmic losses, and produces a homogeneous RF field while avoiding topological problems occurring with quadrature detection.

In order to compensate external interfering fields inside a superconducting magnet coil, these interfering fields are measured outside of the magnet coil by means of a small induction coil in order to obtain a regulation signal, and, by means of a regulation algorithm, the current through a compensation coil is controlled. The induction coils are effectively decoupled from fluctuations of the stray field of the magnet coil and from vibrations.

A cooling apparatus for a low temperature magnet system includes a superconducting magnet coil (32) which encircles a test space (36). The magnet coil (32) is surrounded by at least one intermediate shield (26, 29) and is contained in an evacuated outer shell (22). On the outer shell (22) is a motor driven refrigerator (11) which actively cools the at least one intermediate shield (26, 29) by means of a cooling arm (18) extending through the outer shell (22). For compensating the disturbing fields emitted by the motorized drive of the refrigerator (11) a sensing device is provided for picking up these magnetic and/or mechanical disturbing signals. The sensor signal controls at least one coil (62) for compensating the disturbing field effective in the test space (36).
