Devices, systems and methods are provided to securely and wirelessly connect a medical device to a controller or smartphone with medical device control app, and to wirelessly connect the controller or smartphone with medical device control app to other devices providing additional integrated disease management (IDM) functions. At least two different wireless communication protocols are used depending on level of security needed, with greater security needed for exchange of medical device control operation commands and related data between the medical device and its controller or smartphone with medical device control app to avoid nefarious or unintended changes in medical device control. Exchanges of historical data or notifications relating to the medical device and requiring less security can be transmitted to the controller and/or the smartphone or other IDM devices using a different and more commonly used wireless communication protocol that may afford less security.

Devices, systems and methods are provided to improve pairing between first and second devices to mitigate risk that either device pairs with an unintended device by reducing transmit power to limit communication range between devices to be paired, using minimum and maximum received signal strength thresholds to reject unintended devices, and instructing user to move to another location when multiple devices are detected for pairing. The second device scanning time for detecting advertising signals from the first device is adjusted to detect multiple device co-existence. Pairing is controlled to occur when the second device is the only device that the first device detects.

A wearable infusion pump allows a user to insert a program key into a housing of the pump to select a continuous dosage rate. Program keys are shaped to close contacts on a printed circuit board within the housing to communicate the selected dosage rate to a microprocessor. In this way, a single disposable pump, sold with one Stock keeping unit (SKU), can be used to deliver a plurality of dosage rates. The disposable pump is provided with an on-board display and a one-button on-board user operable control. In preferred embodiments, the infusion pump according to the invention may be used for continuous delivery of insulin in management of Type II diabetes.

An architecture allows individual system components to be developed and tested individually, i.e., as distinct modules, and to be subsequently combined through standardized electrical and communication interfaces. Any combination of these modules can be implemented to form different products that provide any number of functions, such as an integrated system for monitoring a health condition and/or delivering a medication. Systems and methods are provided for conveying an amount of red blood cells and an amount of plasma to a blood source. Blood is conveyed from a blood source into a separation device and the separation device is operated to separate the blood into a layer containing red blood cells and a layer containing plasma. Red blood cells and plasma are removed from the separation device and volumes of the red blood cells and plasma are conveyed to the blood source. The volumes of red blood cells and plasma are alternately conveyed to the blood source for said amounts of red blood cells and plasma.

An assembly determines an analyte concentration in a sample of body fluid. The assembly includes a test sensor having a fluid-receiving area for receiving a sample of body fluid, where the fluid-receiving area contains a reagent that produces a measurable reaction with an analyte in the sample. The assembly also includes a meter having a port or opening configured to receive the test sensor; a measurement system configured to determine a measurement of the reaction between the reagent and the analyte; and a temperature-measuring system configured to determine a measurement of the test-sensor temperature when the test sensor is received into the opening. The meter determines a concentration of the analyte in the sample according to the measurement of the reaction and the measurement of the test-sensor temperature.
