A hydraulically actuated mechanical lock assembly, including a lock actuator comprising a lock housing and a moveable element mounted in the lock housing, wherein the housing is arranged to receive hydraulic fluid at a first end (Chamber A) from a source of high pressure fluid via a return line, and at a second end (Chamber B) from a source of high pressure fluid via a control line, whereby the relative pressures in Chambers A and B are controlled, via the control line, to cause movement of the moveable element between a locked position and an unlocked position; and a lock valve arranged between the return line and the control line to control the flow of hydraulic fluid into Chambers A and B; wherein the return line is configured to be connected between the source of high pressure fluid and the lock valve via chamber A of the lock actuator.

Hydraulically actuated mechanical lock assembly

A solenoid comprises first and second coils connected to an electrical power supply circuit. In a first mode of operation the power supply circuit is arranged to provide a current flowing in opposite directions through the respective first and second coils, e.g. to produce a self-heating effect. In a second mode of operation the power supply circuit is arranged to provide a current flowing in the same direction through the respective first and second coils, e.g. to generate a magnetic force. In some embodiments, the power supply circuit includes a bridge rectifier or full wave rectifier connected to a bi-directional current driver.

Heating of solenoids

A hydraulic power drive unit (PDU) for a transmission system includes a hydraulic motor for converting hydraulic pressure into torque and rotation; a hydraulic brake system for applying a braking force to the hydraulic motor to prevent rotation of the hydraulic motor, wherein the hydraulic brake system is biased to apply the braking force to the hydraulic motor to prevent rotation of the hydraulic motor, and configured to remove the braking force in response to a supply of hydraulic fluid; and a hydraulic circuit for supplying a flow of hydraulic fluid to the hydraulic motor to pressurise and thereby operate the hydraulic motor and for supplying hydraulic fluid to the hydraulic brake system to pressurise the hydraulic brake system and thereby remove the braking force; wherein the hydraulic circuit comprises a brake supply line for supplying the hydraulic fluid to the hydraulic brake system.

Hydraulic power drive unit

A system for monitoring asymmetry between two components includes a comparator having a first input to receive a signal indicative of a position of a first component and a second input to receive a signal indicative of a position of a second component. The system also includes means for performing an integration of a plurality of output signals from the comparator indicative of the difference exceeding the threshold and means for outputting a command signal to actuate a brake in response to the integrating means determining that the number of times the difference exceeds the threshold is in excess of a given value.

Monitoring component asymmetry

A bleed air pressure regulation system for an aircraft anti-icing system comprises a first, upstream pressure regulating valve and a second, downstream pressure regulating valve arranged in series in a bleed airflow path. The respective pressure regulating valves each have a regulating pressure chamber in fluid communication with a respective pressure setting valve. Each pressure setting valve is in fluid communication with a bleed air inlet upstream of the first, upstream pressure regulating valve. The first, upstream pressure regulating valve is set to regulate the pressure of the bleed air to a first pressure and the second, downstream pressure regulating valve is set to regulate the pressure of the bleed air to a second pressure which is higher than the first pressure.

Anti-icing systems

The exit area of a nozzle assembly is varied by translating a ring assembly located at a rear of the engine nacelle. The ring may be axially translatable along the axis of the engine. As the ring translates, the trailing edge of the ring defines a variable nozzle exit area. Translation of the ring creates an upstream exit at a leading edge of the ring assembly. The upstream exit can be used to bleed or otherwise spill flow excess from the engine bypass duct. As the engine operates in various flight conditions, the ring can be translated to obtain lower fan pressure ratios and thereby increase the efficiency of the engine. Fairings partially enclose actuator components for reduced drag.

Variable area fan nozzle with bypass flow

A hydraulically controlled pressure switch, comprising a spool having an elongate body with a first end and a second end, and an intermediate part between the two ends; a target movably connected to the second end of the spool by means of a spring; means for detecting movement of the target and providing an indication of pressure acting on the spool based on the movement of the target; whereby the spool is configured to cause movement of the target against the force of the spring based on the level of pressure acting against the first end, towards the spring, and also the level of pressure at the intermediate part between the two ends.

A no-back arrangement is disclosed for use in applying a braking load to a rotary actuator member, the no-back arrangement comprising a no-back device operable to apply a braking load to the rotary actuator member when the rotary actuator member is subject to a tensile loading, and limit means operable to limit the magnitude of the applied braking load.

No-back arrangement

An actuator arrangement comprises a rotatable shaft, a nut mounted upon the shaft and translatable along the shaft upon rotation of the shaft relative to the nut, and a lock arrangement operable to lock the shaft and nut against relative rotation, the lock arrangement comprising a lock component mounted upon one of the shaft and the nut for axial movement relative thereto but held against angular movement relative thereto, the lock component being co-operable with an abutment provided on the other of the shaft and the nut, or a component associated therewith, to lock the shaft and nut to one another against relative rotation.

An actuator arrangement comprises an actuator having a rotatable drive input, a motor, and a drive transmission arrangement for transmitting rotary drive from the motor to the rotatable drive input of the actuator, wherein the transmission arrangement includes a telescopic drive coupling.

Thrust reverser and VAFN arrangement

An actuator arrangement comprises a pair of symmetrically loaded screw actuators driven from a common motor through respective drive shafts, and a protection arrangement arranged to avoid the continued application of full motor drive to one of the actuators in the event of the occurrence of a jam condition associated therewith.

An actuator arrangement comprises a first screw shaft, a first nut cooperating with the first screw shaft such that rotation of the first screw shaft causes the first nut to translate thereon, a second screw shaft, a second nut cooperating with the second screw shaft such that rotation of the second screw shaft causes the second nut to translate thereon, and first and second linkages connecting the first and second nuts, respectively, to an output member, rotation of the first and second screw shafts to cause translation of the first and second nuts towards one another causing extending movement of the output member and rotation of the first and second screw shafts to cause translation of the first and second nuts away from one another causing retracting movement of the output member.
