A water separator includes an outer annular passage extending along a central longitudinal axis of water separator to direct an airflow along a first direction, and an inner annular passage located radially inboard of the outer annular passage and coaxial with the outer annular passage to direct the airflow along a second direction. A coalescer is located along the outer annular passage to coalesce water in the airflow. A water collector is located along the inner annular passage to collect the water. An airflow outlet is located downstream of the water collector through which the airflow exits the water separator.

A mixture of the first medium and the third medium generated at the mixing point is provided to another component of the environmental control system.

Aircraft environmental control system

An environmental control system includes an ambient air conduit and a bleed air conduit, an electric compressor connected to the ambient air conduit and a mechanical compressor connected to the electric compressor. The electric compressor is supported for rotation independent of the mechanical compressor. A turbine is operatively connected to the mechanical compressor, the turbine connected to both the ambient air conduit and the bleed air conduit to provide conditioned air to a conditioned air conduit. Computer program products and methods of providing conditioned air to conditioned air loads are also described.

An environmental control system of an aircraft including a plurality of inlets for receiving a plurality of mediums including a first medium, a second medium, and a third medium and an outlet for delivering a conditioned flow of the second medium to one or more loads of the aircraft. The environmental control system additionally includes a first compressing device and a second compressing device. The second compressing device is arranged in fluid communication with the first compressing device and the outlet. An inlet of the second compressing device is directly connected to an outlet of the first compressing device, and the first compressing device is driven by energy extracted from the first medium. A medium supply system for delivering one or more mediums to an environmental control system of a vehicle includes a manifold arranged in fluid communication with an inlet of the environmental control system, a first medium source for delivering a first medium to the manifold via a first port; a second medium source for delivering a second medium to the manifold via a second port, and a third medium source for delivering a third medium to the manifold via a third port. An outlet of the first turbine is directly coupled to an inlet of the second turbine, such that the first medium is provided to the first turbine and the second turbine in series.

A thermal management system for a directed energy weapon includes a first heat exchanger thermally coupled to the directed energy weapon and a second heat exchanger arranged in fluid communication with the first heat exchanger to form a closed loop. The second heat exchanger is thermally coupled to a secondary system and a thermal management fluid circulates within the closed loop. A thermal storage device is arranged in fluid communication with the first heat exchanger and the second heat exchanger. The thermal storage device contains a material and a mode of operation of the directed energy weapon is dependent on a condition of the material in the thermal storage device.

A dual entry turbine of a compression device includes a housing having a first inlet and a second inlet, and a first outlet and a second outlet. A turbine impeller is arranged within the housing. The turbine impeller has a first gas path and a second gas path. A first flow path extends from the first inlet to the first outlet via the first gas path and a second flow path extends from the second inlet to the second outlet via the second gas path. The first flow path and the second flow path being fluidly separate from one another.

Ambient air environmental control system

A compressing device for use in an environmental control system includes at least one turbine configured to provide energy by expanding one or more mediums. The one or more mediums provided at an outlet of the at least one turbine form a heat sink within the environmental control system. A compressor is configured to receive energy from the one or more mediums expanded across the at least one turbine. During a first mode of the compressing device, energy derived from a first medium and a second medium of the one or more mediums is used to compress a second medium at the compressor. During a second mode of the compressing device, energy derived from the first medium, the second medium, and a third medium of the one or more mediums is used to compress the second medium at the compressor.

An environmental control system of a vehicle includes a first compression device including a compressor, a first turbine, and a power turbine operably coupled by a shaft. The first turbine is configured to receive a first medium, the compressor is configured to receive a second medium, and the power turbine is configured to receive a third medium. A second compression device, separate from the first compression device, includes a second turbine. The environmental control system is operable in a first mode and a second mode. In the first mode, the second medium is provided to the compressor and the second turbine sequentially. In the second mode, the second medium bypasses the second turbine. In in both the first mode and the second mode, only the second medium is provided to an outlet of the environmental control system.

100% ambient air environmental control system with bleed turbine in series

An environmental control system includes an environmental control system pack having a trim outlet and a primary outlet. A trim medium is output from the trim outlet and a first medium is output from the primary outlet. An inlet of a mixing manifold is connected to the primary outlet of the at least one environmental control system pack. A trim heat exchanger is connected to the trim outlet and the at least one inlet of the environmental control system pack. Within the trim heat exchanger, the trim medium is arranged in a heat exchange relationship with a second medium. From the trim heat exchanger, the second medium is provided to an inlet of the least one environmental control system pack and the trim medium is mixed with a flow output from an outlet of the mixing manifold.
