A system () for obtaining samples for a dynamic resource management system in a wireless network is configured to analyze () data for a dynamic resource management system to determine one or more combinations of input values which are not present or underrepresented in the data. The dynamic resource management system uses supervised learning to estimate resource demand. The system is further configured to adjust () one or more flow characteristics of a data flow between a user device and a base station to obtain one of the combinations of input values, determine a quantity of resources used for the data flow and actual state and/or cell characteristics relevant to the data flow, create a new sample based on the used quantity of resources, the adjusted flow characteristics, and the actual state and/or cell characteristics, and store the new sample in the data.

Obtaining samples for learning-based resource management by adjusting flow characteristics

The invention relates to a system configured as an orchestration function for a mobile network, wherein the mobile network comprises edge nodes which are configurable to provide edge computing resources to mobile devices, wherein the system is configured to at least in part orchestrate a migration of an edge computing resource for a mobile device from a first edge node to a second edge node. The orchestration function and the mobile device interact to enable the orchestration function to start the migration of the edge computing resource in a timely manner.

The system () of the invention is configured to receive information relating to relay devices (-) present in a certain spatial area and determine relay configuration information for the relay devices from the information. The relay configuration information instructs the relay devices when to receive and/or relay data units and when not to receive and/or relay data units. The system is further configured to transmit the relay configuration information to the relay devices. The relay device of the invention is configured receive a data unit from a further device () or not in dependence on the received relay configuration information and/or relay a received data unit to the cellular communication network () or not in dependence on the received relay configuration information.

Determining when to relay a data unit in a cellular communication network

A control system enables re-registration of user equipment (UE) on an alternative network in the event of a partial failure of a network (VPLMN) for wireless communication. An access and mobility management function (AMF) manages the communication to user equipment (UE) via network slices (). A slice priority management function (SPM) receives data indicative of a change in the network's ability to maintain the instantiated network slices and determines to reduce services via affected network slices. Before said slice reduction, the access and mobility management function is informed and sends a slice reduction message to the user equipment. In the UE an alternate network selection function (ANSF) receives the slice reduction message and selects an alternate network based on the user information (USIM) and the slice reduction information, and triggers registration on the selected alternate network for transferring at least part of the affected services to a network slice of the selected alternate network.

Reregistration during network slice failure

A client device (CLD) for a mobile network may comprise two radios (R-, R-) for establishing simultaneous mobile data connections to at least two mobile networks, for example at a country border at which the client device leaves the network range of one mobile network and enters the network range of another. The client device may further be configured to utilize an edge application service (EDG-APP) of a mobile network. To coordinate the switch in connectivity and edge utilization between such different mobile pp networks, a client function (CDCF) may be provided in the client device while separate instances of a network function (EDCF) may be provided in each edge enabling platform of each mobile network. Together, the CDCF and the EDCFs may orchestrate the migration of the edge application service between the mobile networks, in a manner which respects the requirements for separation of concerns, e.g., between a mobile network's operator and an application service provider (ASP).

Seamless roaming for edge computing with dual connectivity

A gateway system is described for use as a gateway between a client device and a remote server. The client device may stream a data stream via the gateway system to the remote server for remote processing. The gateway system may receive the data stream and markers which identify respective blocks of packets in the data stream, wherein each identified block of packets is independently processable. In response to an instruction or configuration to effect a migration of the remote processing from the remote server to a further remote server, the gateway system may determine a block of packets in the data stream from which block of packets onwards the further remote server is to start processing the data stream so as to effect or initialize the migration, and when received, stream the determined block of packets and subsequent blocks of packets of the data stream to the further remote server.

The system of the invention is configured to receive from a client device () located in the mobile communication network () a request to connect to a home area network (), determine an identifier of a residential gateway () in the home area network or of a fixed-line network () to which the home area network is coupled, and transmit a request for an address and a range of addresses in the home area network to the residential gateway or the fixed-line network corresponding to the determined identifier. The system is further configured to receive the address and the range of addresses from the residential gateway or the fixed-line network, transmit the address to the client device, establish a tunnel with the residential gateway and establish a forwarding rule at a forwarding function () of the mobile communication network.

Connecting to a home area network via a mobile communication network

The service-providing device () of the invention is configured to obtain a code associated with the service-providing device, to wirelessly transmit the code, and to receive data from a service-using device () in response to the wireless transmission. The code does not comprise characteristics of the service-providing device. The service-using device of the invention is configured to receive information about one or more service-providing devices located on a secure local area network () over the secure local area network. The information comprises a code for each of the one or more service-providing devices. The service-using device is further configured to select one or more of the received codes, listen for wireless transmission of the selected one or more codes, and transmit data to a device which wirelessly transmitted at least one of the selected one or more codes.

The invention relates to a communication network which is configured to enable instantiation of network slices which represent virtual networks. The invention further relates to a content application server (CAS) for providing an application service via a network slice to at least one user equipment (UE). A network function (SREF) is provided which on the one hand may have access to one or more slice management network functions (CSMF, NSMF, NSSMF) and on the other hand may be accessible to the CAS. The network function (SREF) may abstract the properties of the network slice using a data structure representing a slice object and expose these abstracted properties to the CAS by providing access to the slice object. The slice object may comprise modifiable properties which represent modifiable properties of the corresponding network slice. The CAS may at least in part manage the network slice by modifying one or more modifiable properties, and the SREF may then translate the modified properties into one or more requests for the slice management network functions. The SREF may thereby enable the CAS to perform slice management, while at the same time reducing the complexity of the slice management.

A method of establishing a signalling connection between a remote User Equipment, UE, and a telecommunication network via a relay capable UE, wherein said relay capable UE has established user plane connectivity to an intermediate node comprised by said telecommunication network and is arranged for supporting establishment of said connection for said remote UE, said method comprising the steps of receiving a registration message over said user plane forwarded by said relay capable UE and originating from said remote UE for registering said remote UE to said telecommunication network, forwarding said registration message to a Mobility Management Function comprised by said telecommunication network and receiving a registration accept message from said Mobility Management Function for accepting registration of said remote UE to said telecommunication network, and forwarding said registration accept message to said remote UE via said relay capable UE.

Method of, and devices for, establishing a signalling connection between a remote user equipment, UE, and a telecommunication network via a relay capable UE

A communication network may be provided having a plurality of network nodes and which may be configured to enable instantiation of different network slices which represent virtual networks with different feature sets, e.g., providing different network functions and/or having different network characteristics. The communication network may be configured to allow a network slice to be used for data communication between i) a user equipment (UE) connected to the network and configured to execute an application, and ii) a content or application server (CAS) configured to provide an application service via the network. Network functions may be provided which allow influencing the UE's slice usage based on requirements of the application service, even if the CAS is located outside the connectivity provider's network, e.g., outside a mobile operator's domain.

Network slice usage

In a communication network, a network function may be provided for controlling Information Centric Networking (ICN) protocol-based traffic flow between a set of user equipment (UE). This network function may be an ICN application function (ICN-AF), and may obtain information indicative of whether, and optionally to which degree, a respective ICN node is publisher of content in the exchange of content between the ICN nodes. The ICN-AF may, for example via a session management function (SMF), initiate a reassignment of a PDU session of an ICN node which is presumed to be a requester of content to a data network access point which has connectivity to, or is the same as, a data network access point assigned to an ICN node which is characterized as publisher of content.

Information-centric networking over 5G or later networks

In a communication network, a network function may be provided for controlling Information Centric Networking (ICN) protocol-based traffic flow between a set of user equipment (UE). This network function may be an ICN application function (ICN-AF), and may obtain ICN layer information from an ICN router which is indicative of a congestion state of a current PDU session of user equipment. If the congestion state indicates congestion, the ICN-AF may initiate establishment of a new PDU session for the user equipment (UE1) or initiate upgrade of a quality of service (QoS) characteristic of the current PDU session, for example using the session management function (SMF) and via the SMF's session management of PDU sessions.
