The invention relates to catalytically bleaching substrates, especially laundry fabrics, with atmospheric oxygen and a peroxyl species. A method of bleaching a substrate is provided that comprises applying to the substrate, in an aqueous medium, a specified organic substance which forms a complex with a transition metal, the complex catalysing bleaching of the substrate by atmospheric oxygen and a peroxyl species. Also provided is a bleaching composition comprising, in an aqueous medium, atmospheric oxygen and an organic substance which forms a complex with a transition metal, the complex catalysing bleaching of the substrate by the atmospheric oxygen, wherein the aqueous medium is provided with a peroxygen bleach or a peroxy-based or peroxy-generating bleach system.

Composition and method for bleaching a substrate

Enzymatic bleach composition

An enzymatic bleach composition is provided comprising an enzymatic hydrogen peroxide-generating system and a bleach catalyst which is a coordination complex comprising manganese (Mn) and/or iron (Fe) ions, and preferably comprising a ligand L which is a macrocyclic organic compound of formula (I): ##STR1## wherein t is an integer form 2 to 3; s is an integer from 3 to 4, u is zero or one; each R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are independently selected from H, alkyl, aryl, substituted alkyl, and substituted aryl.

A method of protecting sensitive or reactive adjuncts, preferably of the type incorporated in detergent compositions, by dissolving said adjunct in a biopolymer, thereby forming a stable particulate adjunct product comprising a molecular solid solution of adjunct in a biopolymer. A machine dishwashing composition containing a peroxygen compund as the bleaching agent and having improved bleaching action combined with excellent starch removing properties is disclosed. Concentrated detergent powder compositions

The invention relates to a detergent composition comprising lipases. By inclusion of a certain immunologically defined class of lipases in a detergent composition which comprises as detergent-active material solely an anionic synthetic detergent, and as builder a water-soluble inorganic or organic builder salt, an improved overall detergency is obtained. The builder salt is typically sodium tripolyphosphate or sodium carbonate, and the lipase is typically obtained from certain Pseudomonas or Chromobacter strains.

Enzymatic detergent composition

Peroxy compound bleaching is activated by a catalytic amount of a transition metal complex of a transition metal (Mn, Co, Fe or Cu) with a non-(macro)-cyclic ligand of the formula: ##STR1## preferably 2,2'-bispyridylamine. Bleaching agent and bleach detergent compositions are also disclosed comprising a peroxy compound bleach and said transition metal complex. The transition metal complex is an effective catalyst for activating hydrogen peroxide compounds, peroxyacids and peroxyacid bleach precursors on removing a wide class of stains from substrates, especially texiles and fabrics.
