A circuit for calibration a motor position in a motor having multiple phases including first, second, and third phases is electrically connected to a first phase winding and a second phase winding of the motor. The circuit comprises a comparator having first and second inputs; and a plurality of resistors electrically connected between the motor and the comparator, the plurality of resistors comprising: first parallelly-connected resistors and second parallelly-connected resistors which are connected in series and are connected between the first input of the comparator and the first phase winding of the motor, third parallelly-connected resistors and two or more fourth parallelly-connected resistors which are connected in series and are connected between the second input of the comparator and the second phase winding of the motor, and fifth parallelly-connected resistors connected in series with the second parallelly-connected resistors and connected in series with the fourth parallelly-connected resistors.

Apparatus and method for calibrating motor position offset using back electromotive force zero crossing detection

A vehicle wheel assembly comprises: a wheel for mounting a tire thereon; and an in-wheel motor mounted in the inner space of the wheel and comprising: a rotor connected to the wheel, wherein a magnet is mounted to a center portion of the rotor rotatably coupled with a bearing assembly and arranged at a rotation axis of the wheel, a stator configured to drive the rotor, a rotary sensor disposed in sensing relationship with the magnet mounted to the center portion of the rotor, the rotary sensor configured to be responsive to rotation of the magnet for generating a signal, and an electronic device comprising a circuit board and electronics; and a brake actuator configured to apply brake to the wheel or the rotor. The electronics mounted on the circuit board comprise a single electronic control unit configured to control both the in-wheel motor and the brake actuator.

A motor control system shorts motor windings of a motor by using enhancement metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs) so that the motor generates braking torque when all or some electric control units of the motor are disabled or failed. The motor control system comprises: a motor comprising a plurality of motor phase terminals; a plurality of electric control units electrically connected to the motor and configured to control the motor, wherein the electric control units configured to output control signals, respectively; a plurality of power sources, each of the power sources electrically connected to a respective one of the electric control units; and a shorting circuit connected between the power sources and the motor, the shorting circuit configured to selectively short the motor phase terminals in response to one or more of the control signals of the electric control units.

Motor control system and method for selectively shorting motor windings

A motor control system shorts motor windings of a motor by using junction gate field-effect transistors (JFETs) controlled bipolar junction transistors (BJTs), solid state relays (SSRs) controlled BJTs, and depletion mode metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs) so that the motor generates braking torque when all or some electric control units of the motor are disabled or failed. The motor control system comprises: a motor comprising a plurality of motor phase terminals; a plurality of electric control units electrically connected with the motor and configured to control the motor, wherein the electric control units are configured to output control signals, respectively; and a shorting circuit connected to between the motor and the electric control units, the shorting circuit configured to short the motor phase terminals in response to receiving none of the control signals from the electric control units. The shorting circuit is configured not to short the motor phase terminals when receiving at least one of the control signals from at least one of the electric control units.

A vehicle wheel assembly comprises a wheel for mounting a tire thereon and having an inner space; and an in-wheel motor mounted in the inner space of the wheel and comprising: a rotor connected to the wheel and configured to rotatable relative to a stator, the stator configured to drive the rotor, an electronic device comprising a circuit board and electronics mounted on the circuit board and configured to control the in-wheel motor, two-phase dielectric material, and covers coupled with the stator to form a hermetic enclosure. The electronic device and the two-phase dielectric material are contained in the hermetic enclosure formed by the wall of the stator and the covers coupled with stator, and the two-phase dielectric material is in contact with the wall of the stator and the electronic device to cool the stator and the electronic device by transitioning between a liquid phase and a gaseous phase, conduction, and convection.

In-wheel motor with cooling system

A motor control system comprises: a motor; power sources; electric control units (ECUs) connected with the motor, each of ECUs comprising an inverter connected with a respective power source; and a controller monitoring whether an abnormality is detected in a voltage supplied to ECU(s). When the abnormality is detected in the voltage supplied to non-active ECU, the controller isolates current of active ECU to an inverter of active ECU to prevent high voltage spike caused by uncontrolled current flowing from active ECU to non-active ECU having the abnormality, and after the current of active ECU is isolated, electrically disconnects non-active ECU from active ECU and/or the motor. When the abnormality is detected in the voltage supplied to active ECU, the controller electrically disconnects active ECU from non-active ECU and/or the motor; and after active ECU having the abnormality is disconnected from non-active ECU and/or the motor, activates non-active ECU.

Motor control system having redundant electric control unit

A motor control system comprises: a motor comprising motor windings; and electric control units connected with the motor, each of the electric control units comprising an inverter. One of the electric control units comprises: a direct current (DC) bus; first switches, each of the first switches connected with a respective one of the motor windings; second switches, each of the second switches connected with the DC bus and a respective one of the motor windings; a first switch driver generating drive signals to drive the first and second switches; pull up resistors, each of the pull up resistors connected between the DC bus and a respective one of the second switches. The voltage pulled up by the pull up resistors can force the second switches to be turned on to short the motor windings in a state that the first switch driver does not generate the drive signals.

A motor control system for determining a reference d-axis current and a reference q-axis current is provided. The motor control system includes a motor, a DC power source and DC input lines, and a current command controller. The DC power source generates a bridge voltage across the DC input lines. The current command controller is configured to monitor the bridge voltage and a torque reference command. The current command controller is configured to calculate the reference q-axis current based on a torque reference command. The current command controller is configured to calculate the reference d-axis current based on a magnitude of the reference q-axis current.

A motor control system is provided, and includes a motor, at least one differential amplifier configured to monitor phase current applied to the motor, and a current compensation controller. The current compensation controller is in communication with the at least one differential amplifier, and is configured to periodically determine a common-mode voltage of the at least one differential amplifier. The current compensation controller is also configured to determine a corrected phase current value based on the common mode voltage.

The torque ripple compensation controller is configured to add the harmonic ripple current for each of the plurality of motor harmonics together to determine the ripple compensating current.
