Provided are a cell life-and-death determination method, a cell life-and-death determination device, and a cell life-and-death determination system. The cell life-and-death determination method includes: acquiring images of a cell captured in a plurality of focal planes including an in-focus plane of the cell in a direction opposite to a side on which the cell is irradiated with light; acquiring an image piece including a central portion and an outer peripheral portion of the cell from each of the images; connecting the image pieces in an order of an imaging direction of the focal plane to create a connected image for analysis; extracting a feature amount from the connected image for analysis; and determining whether the cell is alive or dead on the basis of the feature amount of the connected image for analysis and a predetermined range of the feature amount.

An oxygen permeability measuring apparatus for measuring an oxygen permeation rate of oxygen barrier film in a dark room is provided. A container is charged with inert gas, and sealed hermetically by use of the oxygen barrier film at least partially. A chemiluminescent compound is contained in the container, for emitting light by oxidation with the oxygen. A photon detector detects photons emitted by the chemiluminescent compound so as to determine an amount of the oxygen permeated through the oxygen barrier film. Preferably, the container includes a container body. An opening is formed in the container body, and closed hermetically by the oxygen barrier film attached thereto. The photon detector is disposed inside or outside the container. The oxygen permeation rate is equal to or less than 10cc/m&#xb7;day&#xb7;atm. The chemiluminescent compound includes tetrakis(dimethylamino)ethylene.

An optical printing head of a side-printing device has an array of LED chips mounted on a substrate along a perpendicular direction to a conveying direction of a photosensitive material. The LED chips are driven in synchronism with the conveying movement of the photosensitive material, to print data of the photosensitive material as a latent image line by line on a side margin of the photosensitive material. Each LED chip corresponds to one pixel of the latent image, and is partitioned from each other by partitioning plates, for preventing interference between rays from adjacent LED chips. A diffusion plate is placed on the partitioning plates, to equalize luminance of rays from each LED chip.

Optical printing head of side-printing device for printing data on photosensitive material

An apparatus and an associated method for manufacturing a photographic paper. The apparatus allows a matrix of dots to be formed as a latent image on the photographic paper at a first pitch in a horizontal direction, and a second pitch in a vertical direction. The apparatus includes an exposure head which has an array of LED elements, a feed mechanism for feeding the photographic paper, a fiber array of light transmission members (second plastic fibers) arranged at a first pitch for transmitting light from the exposure head to the photographic paper, a light guide for guiding the light from the exposure head to the fiber array, and a light emission controller for energizing all the LED elements of the exposure head each time the photographic paper is fed a second pitch. The apparatus allows dots to be formed as a latent image on the photographic paper which have clear profiles and are free of density variations. This helps prevent unauthorized copying of a photographed image on the paper by an image reading device.

A bar code printing apparatus includes a rotary. encoder for outputting encoder pulses in two different phases. The direction in which film is transported is discriminated by the encoder pulses and indicated by a forward direction pulse or a reverse direction pulse indicated for a predetermined length of transported film. A direction discriminating circuit comprises a clock pulse generator for generating clock pulses at a frequency higher than that at which the encoder pulse is output, a delay circuit for slightly delaying the clock pulse, a first latch circuit for latching one of the encoder pulses in synchronism with the clock pulse to output a transportation signal; a second latch circuit for outputting a latch condition signal; and two AND gates, each connected to the first and second latch circuits and the delay circuit, for outputting a forward direction pulse and a reverse direction pulse, respectively.
