In an original reading apparatus, a conveying mechanism and a reading device start a conveying operation and a reading operation to acquire a read image when a detecting device detects an existence of an original. The read image is acquired in a first direction and has a prescribed width in a second direction orthogonal to the first direction. The first direction corresponds to a conveying direction of the original. A control device determines whether or not the read image includes an overall solid region with a single color. The overall solid region has: a length in the first direction longer than or equal to a prescribed length; and a width in the second direction equal to the prescribed width. When the read image includes the overall solid region, the control device outputs a signal indicative of incorrect detection of the existence of the original due to external light.

An image forming apparatus includes: a light source; a photosensitive member; a brushless motor including a stator and a rotor; a rotary polygon mirror rotated by the brushless motor; an energization switching unit that turns on/off energizations of the coils; a voltage detecting unit that outputs a detection signal based on induced voltages generated in coils of the stator by rotation of the rotor; and a motor controlling unit that controls the turning on/off of the energizations by the energization switching unit based on the detection signal. In a non-image forming period after one image forming operation, the motor controlling unit performs a low-speed process where the motor controlling unit maintains a rotation speed of the brushless motor at a speed, which is lower than a speed in the image forming operation, and at which the induced voltages are detectable by the voltage detecting unit.

Image forming apparatus

An image scanning apparatus including an open-close detector configured to detect an open-close state of a document cover, a first document-detector, a scanning unit configured to scan a document placed on a platen or a document fed from a document tray, a control unit, and a commanding unit configured to input a start command to start scanning. When the start command is inputted, when the document placed on the document tray is detected by the first document-detector, the control unit controls the scanning unit to scan the document fed from the document tray, and when the document placed on the document tray is not detected, the control unit determines whether to execute scanning of the document placed on the platen. The determination is performed based on a result of detection performed by the open-close detector.

Image scanning apparatus

An image input/output apparatus includes an image input/output section, an operation section, a cover member, and an electrostatic eliminating device. The image input/output section can perform at least one of an image input operation and an image output operation. The image input/output section includes a movable member capable of being moved between a first position and a second position, and the electrostatic eliminating device is arranged on the movable member. The operation section includes an electric board, and enables a user to operate the image input/output section. The cover member is detachably mounted to the operation section so as to cover the operation section. The cover member cannot be detached or attached when the movable member is in the first position, and can be detached or attached when the movable member is in the second position.

A carriage for an image scanning unit which scans an image on an object is provided with a light source, a reflecting member placed to face the light source and configured to reflect a light emitted from the light source toward the object to illuminate the image, a housing that contains the light source and the reflecting member, the housing having an opening which allows the light reflected by the reflecting member to pass through and proceed toward the object, and a radiation plate connected to the reflecting member so that heat is conducted from the reflecting member to the radiation plate, at least part of the radiation plate being exposed to outside the housing.
