In a video system of the invention, control means is provided for a terminal input apparatus which is connected by a communication network of a camera on the partner side and which comprises an image display apparatus having a multiwindow display function for selecting and displaying the camera. An image pickup operation which is required to the camera on the partner side, for example, the image pickup direction, focal distance, panning, exposure amount, white balance, automatic focusing, and the like of the designated camera are inputted by using an image display and a window display of the image display apparatus. The operation of the camera on the partner side and the operations of a tripod, a movable arm, and the like to hold the camera are controlled through communicating means. A photographed image is displayed by the display apparatus.

Convergence angle information and image information of video cameras is transmitted from a multi-eye image-taking apparatus having two video cameras through a recording medium to a displaying apparatus. A convergence angle of display units in the displaying apparatus is controlled in accordance with the convergence angle information of the video cameras, permitting an observer to observe natural images. Since the convergence angle information is made ahead of the image information, the convergence angle of the display units can be changed with a natural feeling.

In an image sensing and recording apparatus capable of recording image data on plural types of removable recording media, a recording speed of a recording medium for recording image data is recognized, then image sensing modes, including-a single image sensing mode and a sequential image sensing mode, which are set in advance are classified into available image sensing mode and unavailable image sensing mode on the basis of the recognized recording speed. Further, image sensing parameters, including numbers of pixels per frame and frame rates for the sequential image sensing mode, which are set in advance are also classified into available image sensing mode and unavailable image sensing mode on the basis of the recognized recording speed of the recording medium. An automatic focus detecting device for obtaining focusing information on the basis of an image signal obtained by forming an image on an image sensor is provided with a detection area discriminating circuit arranged to discriminate whether an area from which the image signal is obtained is a focusing information detection area which is suited for detecting the focusing information, on the basis of a state of the image signal, and a detection area setting circuit arranged to set the focusing information detection area on the basis of a result of the discrimination made by the detection area discriminating circuit.

Automatic focus detecting device

There is provided an image pickup apparatus capable of operating only at the time of occurrence of moire and reducing the moire without the need to use an optical low-pass filter and without degrading image quality. The image pickup apparatus is provided with a circuit for detecting, from an output signal of an image sensor, the amount of aliasing distortion (moire) which occurs when sampling is performed at the pitch of pixels of the image sensor, and determining whether moire has occurred. On the basis of the detected amount of moire, the distance between a photographic lens and the image sensor is made to vary or electrical processing is applied to the output signal from the image sensor, thereby reducing the moire. Also, an image signal appearing when the photographic lens is located at a position deviated from an in-focus position is subtracted from an image signal appearing when the photographic lens is located at the in-focus position, whereby only a moire component is separated to be subtracted from the image signal appearing when the photographic lens is located at the in-focus position.

Image pickup apparatus

A stereoscopic display apparatus discriminates image signals for the left and right eyes by comparing the received image signals, and displays an image without adding special signals for discriminating the left and right eyes. A mechanical connection between an image pickup and an image display is not needed to properly distinguish left and right eye images.

A head-position controlling device includes a head moving mechanism for causing a head to move with respect to a recording track on a recording medium; a detecting circuit for detecting an amplitude of a reproduced signal which is reproduced from the recording track on the recording medium by the head; and a controlling circuit for controlling the head moving mechanism on the basis of an output of the detecting circuit. If so that if the amplitude of the reproduced signal is greater than a predetermined level, the head is made to move in units of a first moving amount to detect a position where the amplitude of the reproduced signal is a maximum, and if the amplitude of the reproduced signal is less than the predetermined level, the head is made to move in units of a second moving amount greater than the first moving amount. If the amplitude of the reproduced signal becomes greater than the predetermined level, the moving amount of the head is switched to the first moving amount.

A stereoscopic image processing apparatus for processing a stereoscopic image signal for a stereoscopic image which is composed of a plurality of images is arranged to receive a plurality of image signals for the plurality of images, to time-base-compress the image signals received, to form a composite image signal by combining the time-base-compressed image signals, to multiplex an information signal for information which is other than images but corresponds to the contents of the plurality of images, and to output the composite image signal to a transmission route. The arrangement enables the apparatus to combine the plurality of image signals for the images forming the stereoscopic image and to transmit the composite image signal together with the information signal for information which is other than images but corresponds to the content of the plurality of images.
