An improved structure for cooling a cathode ray tube apparatus for projecting color images includes a cooling medium contained in a space defined by a front panel of the cathode ray tube, a front panel or lens, and a metallic frame for transferring heat from the tube to the frame. An improvement includes an air or expansion chamber communicating with the defined cooling medium space to permit expansion of the heated cooling medium into the chamber, while preserving the distance between the front panel of the tube and the lens.

Cathode ray tube apparatus with liquid cooled front panel

A cathode ray tube apparatus having a glass panel in front of the phosphor screen made of a material which has an X-ray absorption coefficient larger than that of the backing on which the phosphor layer is applied. The two panels are separated by means of a spacer and a liquid coolant is incorporated into the space between the panels to enhance the heat radiation effect of the phosphor surface and to avoid the radiation of X-rays.

A cathode ray tube apparatus including an envelope having a panel portion with a phosphor screen formed on the inner surface thereof, a neck portion provided with an electron gun therein and a funnel portion therebetween; and a transparent panel facing the external surface of the panel portion with a peripherally located spacer therebetween, wherein a liquid coolant is sealed in the space formed between the panel portion and the transparent panel by light absorbing material, and the spacer is treated to reduce reflection.

A cathode ray tube having a metal reinforcing band girdling its envelope adjacent the face plate is provided with a transparent protective panel which covers the face plate and is affixed to the latter by a transparent conductive layer of an adhesive resin filling a space therebetween, and one or more conductive connecting elements providing an electrically conductive connection between the transparent conductive layer and the reinforcing band which is grounded. The transparent panel and the transparent conductive layer cooperate to protect the face plate from damage that might cause implosion of the tube envelope, and the connection of the transparent conductive layer to ground ensures that the protective panel will not be electrified, whereby to eliminate any shock hazard from contact therewith.
