A liquid crystal display device including a first substrate, with a plurality of bus lines formed thereon such that they intersect with each other, and a second substrate facing the first substrate. The device also includes a plurality of pixel regions defined by the bus lines; a thin film transistor formed in each of the pixel regions; a color filter layer formed in each of the pixel regions; and a pixel electrode formed in each of the pixel regions. A liquid crystal layer is provided between the first substrate and the second substrate. The liquid crystal layer is located next to a polymeric structure formed by irradiating a mixture of liquid crystal materials and ultraviolet-curing monomers with ultraviolet light, and a black display is achieved when no voltage or a subthreshold voltage is applied.

Liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal display device including first and second substrates and a liquid crystal layer therebetween. The device also includes a plurality of gate bus lines, and a plurality of drain bus lines that intersect the gate bus lines, as well as a plurality of pixel regions defined by the gate and drain bus lines. Additionally, the device includes a thin film transistor and a resin color filter layer formed in each of the pixel regions. There is a pixel electrode formed in each of the pixel regions on the resin color filter layer that includes a slit extending in parallel with an edge of the pixel region and a plurality of finer slits diagonally extending from the slit. Finally, the device includes a common electrode formed on the second substrate, and a vertical alignment film applied to each of surfaces of the substrates.

Substrate for liquid crystal display, liquid crystal display having the same and method of manufacturing the same

A liquid crystal display device including first and second substrates, a liquid crystal layer, a plurality of gate bus lines and a plurality of drain bus lines. A plurality of pixel regions are defined by the gate bus lines and the drain bus lines. Pixel electrodes are divided into at least four regions such that at least four domains of different liquid crystal orientation directions are defined within the pixel regions. The first and second regions each include a micro-cutout pattern including a plurality of cutouts extending in a slanted direction with respect to an edge of the first or second region, respectively, and the cutouts of the first region and the cutouts of the second region are generally parallel to each other both within each of the regions as well as across the first and second regions.

A liquid crystal display including a first substrate including a gate bus line, a data bus line intersecting the gate bus line, a thin film transistor formed near an intersection between the gate bus line and the data bus line, and a pixel electrode including a transmission electrode electrically connected to the thin film transistor and a reflection electrode electrically connected to the transmission electrode, a second substrate opposed to the first substrate and including an opposed electrode opposed to the pixel electrode, and a liquid crystal layer sealed between the first substrate and the second substrate. The transmission electrode includes a plurality of electrode units interconnected to each other by an interconnection pattern, and the reflection electrode is formed over the electrode unit with an insulation layer with convexities formed in the surface of the insulation layer.

Liquid crystal display having reflection electrodes

Opening portions (opening patterns) having different arrangement pitches and sizes are formed in first metal film patterns, a first semiconductor film, second metal film patterns, a third insulating film, and the like under a reflective electrode, respectively. These opening portions overlap each other complexly to form fine bumps and dips in the surface of the reflective electrode. Further, the opening portions can be formed in the first metal film patterns, the first semiconductor film, and the second metal film patterns simultaneously with the formation of TFTs. Accordingly, an increase in the number of steps can be avoided.

Liquid crystal display device and method of manufacturing the same

By circular or polygonal openings formed in at least one of a metal film, a semiconductor film, an insulating film and the like, which films are below a reflecting electrode, minute irregularities are densely formed on a surface of the reflecting electrode. In this case, it is required that a linear density defined by peripheral dimensions of the openings per unit area is equal to 0.2 or more.

A substrate for use in a liquid crystal display, including an insulating substrate cooperating with an oppositely arranged opposite substrate to hold a liquid crystal. A plurality of pixel regions are arranged on the insulating substrate in a matrix form, in each of which a switching element is formed. At least one resin color filter layer is formed on the pixel regions to cover the switching element. The liquid crystal display comprises a first substrateincluding a gate bus line, a data bus line, a thin film transistorformed near an intersection between the gate bus lineand the data bus line, and a pixel electrodeincluding a transmission electrodeelectrically connected to the thin film transistorand a reflection electrodeelectrically connected to the transmission electrode; a second substrateopposed to the first substrateand including an opposed electrodeopposed to the pixel electrode; and a liquid crystal layersealed between the first substrateand the second substrate. The reflection electrodeis formed over another gate bus linewhich is different from the gate bus line, with an insulation layerformed therebetween. The decrease of a voltage applied between the reflection electrodeand the opposed electrodecan be prevented while the space which can be not used as the transmission region can be utilized. Thus, the area decrease of the transmission part is prevented while the area of the reflection part can be increased, whereby a reflective transmission type liquid crystal display of higher display quality can be provided.

It is an object of the invention to provide a substrate for a liquid crystal display, a liquid crystal display having the same, and a method of manufacturing the same which make it possible to provide a display having high luminance and preferable display characteristics to be used in display sections of information apparatuses and the like. Each pixel is defined by gate bus lines extending in the horizontal direction and drain bus lines extending in the vertical direction. TFTs are formed in the vicinity of intersections between the bus lines, and resin overlap sections for shielding the TFTs from light are formed above the same. No black matrix is formed on a common electrode substrate which is provided in a face-to-face relationship with a TFT substrate, and the bus lines and the resin overlap sections formed on the TFT substrate function as a black matrix.

Substrate for liquid crystal display,liquid crystal display having the same,and having pixel aperture geometry of slits and finer slits

The invention relates to a substrate for use in a liquid crystal display of a CF-on-TFT structure in which a color filter is formed on the side of an array substrate in which a switching element is formed, and has an object to provide a substrate for use in a liquid crystal display, which enables simplification of a manufacturing process typified by a photolithography process and has high reliability. The substrate for use in the liquid crystal display is constructed to include external connection terminals which include first terminal electrodes electrically connected to gate bus lines led out from a plurality of pixel regions arranged on a glass substrate in a matrix form, second terminal electrodes formed of forming material of a pixel electrode and directly on the glass substrate, and electrode coupling regions for electrically connecting the first and the second terminal electrodes, and which electrically connect an external circuit and the gate bus lines.
