An atomic beam generator includes a cathode constituted as a housing having an emission surface provided with an irradiation port through which an atomic beam is emissive; an anode disposed inside the cathode to generate plasma between the cathode and the anode; and a magnetic field generating unit including a first magnetic field generating unit that generates a first magnetic field and a second magnetic field generating unit that generates a second magnetic field, and guiding positive ions produced in the cathode to the emission surface by generating, in the cathode, the first magnetic field and the second magnetic field both parallel to the emission surface such that a magnetic field direction is leftward in the first magnetic field and is rightward in the second magnetic field when viewed from an emission surface side on condition of the first magnetic field being positioned above the second magnetic field.

Atomic beam generator, bonding apparatus, surface modification method, and bonding method

An atomic beam source includes a tubular cathode that includes an emission portion that includes an emission port through which an atomic beam can be emitted, a rod-shaped first anode disposed inside the cathode, and a rod-shaped second anode disposed inside the cathode and spaced from the first anode. At least one selected from the group consisting of a shape of the cathode, a shape of the first anode, a shape of the second anode, and a positional relationship between the cathode, the first anode, and the second anode is predetermined so that emission of sputter particles resulting from collision of cations, which have been generated by plasma between the first anode and the second anode, with at least one selected from the cathode, the first anode, and the second anode is reduced.

Atomic beam source

A ceramic filter is provided, including a base body having partition walls made of a ceramic porous body and defining cells, filter membranes provided on the partition walls which are made of a ceramic porous body having an average pore diameter smaller than that of the surface of each partition wall, and a glass seal provided to cover at least the end face of the base body. The glass seal includes an alkali-free glass containing silica (SiO2) in an amount of 55 to 65 mol %, zirconia (ZrO2) in an amount of 1 to 10 mol % and at least one kind of alkaline earth metal oxide selected from calcia, baria and strontia, but which does not substantially contain zinc oxide.

Ceramic filter

A ceramic filter is provided including a substrate, a separation layer comprising titania and having an average pore size in a range of 0.08 to 1 &#x3bc;m and a thickness in a range of 5 to 20 &#x3bc;m, and an intermediate layer formed between the substrate and the separation layer. The intermediate layer includes aggregate particles that are bonded together with glass frits, and aggregate particles of the intermediate layer are smaller than aggregate particles of the substrate and larger than aggregate particles of the separation layer.

Ceramic filter and method for purifying water

A ceramic porous body is provided which uses a binder made of a glass that has excellent acid resistance and alkali resistance and which can be used for a long period of time as a filtration filter. The ceramic porous body is formed from ceramic particles that are bonded using a glass binder comprising 5 to 20 mol % of a plurality of metal oxides, selected from the group consisting of LiO, NaO, KO, MgO, CaO, SrO and BaO and containing at least two alkali metal oxides selected from the group consisting of LiO, NaO and KO as an essential component, at least 3 mol % of at least one of ZrOand TiOas a total amount, and SiOand incidental impurities as the balance.

Ceramic porous body and method of manufacturing glass usable as binder therefor

A method for separating p-xylene by separating and recovering only p-xylene from a p-xylene-containing raw material mixture under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions using a zeolite membrane as a separating membrane is provided. The p-xylene partial pressure at the raw material side of the separating membrane is kept at a sufficiently high pressure and the p-xylene partial pressure at the recovery side of the separating membrane is controlled at a pressure which is not higher than the inflection point of p-xylene adsorption curve. This method for separating p-xylene using a zeolite membrane as a separating membrane can secure a sufficient p-xylene permeation amount and has industrial applicability.

A method for manufacturing a filter utilizing a ceramic porous membrane is provided, comprising the step of depositing a film deposition slurry containing ceramic framework particles on the surface of a porous substrate. The slurry contains an organic polymer for expanding gaps among the ceramic framework particles, and the micro-pore size of the porous membrane is controlled by adjusting the weight ratio between the framework particles and the organic polymer in the slurry, thereby enabling a porous membrane having a desired micro-pore size to be formed irrespective of the particle size of the framework particles.

A honeycomb type gas separating membrane structure for separating or supplying a specified gas from a mixed gas is provided. The gas separating membrane structure has a honeycomb unitary structure and is a dense body made of a material having a gas separation ability. The honeycomb type gas separating membrane structure does not require a support for supporting a gas separating membrane, increases the membrane area, and reduces costs because its production process is simple.

A reaction vessel including an oxygen-containing gas chamber separated from a source gas chamber by an oxygen-permeable membrane that allows oxygen selectively to pass therethrough to contact and react with source gas contained in the source gas chamber. The ratio of at least one of (i) the volume of the oxygen-containing gas chamber to the total volume of the vessel and (ii) the volume of the source gas chamber to the total volume of the vessel, is outside a range within which explosion would occur if the oxygen-containing gas and source gas were allowed to combine directly. Preferably, the ratio also is outside a range within which explosion would occur if the oxygen-containing gas and products resulting from reactions between oxygen supplied through the oxygen-permeable membrane and the source gas were allowed to combine directly. The vessel is safer to operate in that the risk of explosion, due to direct mixing of the gases when the oxygen-permeable membrane is damaged or cracked, is greatly reduced.

The ceramic porous membrane comprises ceramic particles and ceramic sol particles (with the exception of TiO sol particles). The ceramic particles and the ceramic sol particles are kneaded to obtain a kneaded product or a slurry, and the kneaded product or the slurry are sintered at a lower temperature. The ceramic sol particles have an average particle diameter of &frac15; or less of an average particle diameter of the ceramic particles, and the ceramic sol has a solid content of 1 to 30% by weight based on the weight of solid content of the ceramic particles. The method of manufacturing a ceramic porous membrane includes adding ceramic particles) having an average particle diameter of &frac15; or less an average particle diameter of ceramic particles to the ceramic particles such that the solid content of the ceramic sol is 1 to 30% by weight based on the weight of a solid content of the ceramic particles, mixing the particles, depositing or molding the resulting mixture, and heat treating the resulting film or molded product at 300&deg; C. or less under vapor atmosphere, or at 300 to 700&deg; C. under ambient atmosphere, thereby fixing the ceramic particles.

A method for operation of membrane reactor is provided. In a membrane reactor, the hydrogen formed in the hydrogen formation portion of the reaction chamber is transmitted to the hydrogen separation portion of the reaction chamber via a hydrogen-selectively permeable membrane and thereby the conversion of raw material gas into hydrogen is improved. Steam and/or carbon dioxide into the hydrogen separation portion are added. In the above method for operation of membrane reactor, the surface area of the hydrogen-selectively permeable membrane of membrane reactor can be made smaller while the advantage of membrane reactor of giving a higher conversion of reaction at low temperatures is being maintained.

An apparatus for recovering, refining, and storing hydrogen gas, includes: a recovery and refinement line for recovering and refining hydrogen gas used for a hydrogen furnace or used as a process gas; a storage tank for storing refined gas; and a resupply line for resupplying a stored gas to the hydrogen furnace or as a process gas. A palladium film is installed in the recovery and refinement line and lets hydrogen gas permeate the palladium film so as to be refined.

A ceramic porous membrane in which aggregate particles are bound by binding portions composed of a titania, is provided. The binding portions composed of a titania are contained in an amount of 1-30% by weight based on the aggregate particles, and the aggregate particles comprise an .alpha.-alumina. The porous membrane is formed on a porous substrate to form a ceramic filter. A slurry comprising aggregate particles and 1-70% by weight of binding portions composed of a titania based on the aggregate particles are prepared, and thermally treating the slurry at a temperature of 300-700.degree. C. under ambient atmosphere to form the porous membrane.
