A flame-retardant composition that is more excellent in heat resistance than a conventional flame-retardant composition. The flame-retardant composition contains silane-crosslinked polyolefin, polyolefin, a metallic hydrate, a phenolic antioxidant, a sulfurous antioxidant, a metallic oxide, and a copper inhibitor. The sulfurous antioxidant is preferably a benzimidazole compound, and the metallic oxide is preferably a zinc oxide. The silane-crosslinked polyolefin is preferably polyethylene having a density of 0.880 to 0.910 g/cmthat is silane-crosslinked. The polyolefin is preferably polyethylene having a density of 0.880 to 0.910 g/cm, or an olefin elastomer having a melting point of 140&#xb0; C. or more.

Flame-retardant composition and insulated wire, and method for producing flame-retardant composition

A composition for a flame-retardant silane-crosslinked olefin resin, an insulated wire including the same, and a method for producing a flame-retardant silane-crosslinked olefin resin. The composition contains silane-grafted polyethylene made by graft polymerization of very low-density polyethylene having a density of 0.880 to 0.895 g/cmwith a silane coupling agent, a polypropylene elastomer, metal hydroxide, and a silane crosslinking catalyst. The method includes the steps of kneading a batch containing silane-grafted polyethylene, a batch containing a polypropylene elastomer and metal hydroxide, and a batch containing an olefin resin and a silane crosslinking catalyst, molding a composition of the kneaded batches, and subjecting the molded composition to water crosslinking.

Composition for a flame-retardant silane-crosslinked olefin resin, an insulated wire including the same, and a method for producing a flame-retardant silane-crosslinked olefin resin

A process of producing a flame-retardant silane-crosslinked olefin resin, an insulated wire, and a process of producing an insulated wire. The process includes kneading and molding a silane graft batch containing a silane-grafted olefin resin in which a silane coupling agent is graft polymerized onto an olefin resin, a flame retardant batch in which an olefin resin is mixed with a flame retardant containing metal hydroxide, a catalyst batch in which an olefin resin is mixed with a silane crosslinking catalyst, and water crosslinking the batches after kneading and molding. A mass ratio of the flame retardant batch to the silane graft batch is 60:40 to 90:10, and the catalyst batch amount is 3 to 10 part by mass with respect to 100 part by mass of a component of the silane graft and flame retardant batches. The wire is prepared by covering a conductor with the silane-crosslinked olefin resin.

Process of producing flame-retardant silane-crosslinked olefin resin, insulated wire, and process of producing insulated wire

A flat cable includes first and second insulator sheets, and a plurality of conductor elements arranged in parallel relation to one another over the length of the sheets. The first insulator sheet is provided with an adhesive layer. The conductor elements are interposed between the adhesive layer and the second insulator sheet. The first and second insulator sheets are first press-adhered under heat through the adhesive layer, and then bonded by an ultrasonic welding unit. The ultrasonic welding unit includes a horn for imparting ultrasonic oscillations, and an anvil placed in opposition to the horn. The first and second insulator sheets are bonded in the zones which extend along the length of the sheets and are located outside the loci where the conductor elements are arranged. The bonding is performed either continuously or in an intermittent manner.
