Method for preventing solder from rising to a portion of an electric contact when the electric contact is being soldered to a copper foil so as to extend therefrom. The portion is plated with a noble metal and adapted to contact a mating object. Cooling means is brought into contact with at least the portion of the electric contact adapted to contact the mating object, and connection portion between the electric contact and the copper foil is heated by heating means. The rising of solder can be prevented and the electric contacts thus obtained are superior in mechanical property (sufficient bonding strength), electrical property (conductive property and low contact resistance), resistance to environmental conditions (impediment to oxidization), and physical property (limitation of rise of solder due to capillary action).

Method for preventing solder rise to electric contact and electric contact produced by the same

A connector includes contact conductors each having two contact portions and a conductor connecting the two contact portions arranged on a flexible printed circuit board folded back so that the contact portions arranged its front and rear faces can be connected to contacts of connecting objects, pushing device provided on the circuit board, and an elastic member arranged between the contact portions on the front and rear faces. Another connector includes a flexible printed circuit board not being folded back, an elastic member held on the side of the circuit board opposite from the contact portions, and at least one pushing member for pushing the circuit board and the connecting objects. A pushing jig includes pushing portions provided on a base material to be pushed against connecting objects, an elastic member held on the base material opposite side of the pushing portions, and at least one pushing member for pushing the base material and the connecting objects. With these constructions, a reduced overall distance between the substrates is possible, and a narrower pitch and stable connection can be obtained.

Connector and pushing jig

An electrical connector for connecting oppositely arranged first and second mating electrical devices includes a support member, a first circuit having a plurality of electric contact elements arranged on one surface of the support member to contact electric contacts of the first mating electrical device, a second circuit having a plurality of electric contact elements arranged on the other surface of the support member to contact electric contacts of the second mating electrical device, and conductors connecting the first and second circuits. The electric contact elements of the first and second circuits are formed in the most suitable manner to meet the shapes of the mating electric contacts, respectively. The support member is formed through its thickness with slits closely around the electric contact elements, respectively. As a result, when the electric contacts of the first mating electrical device urge the electric contact elements arranged on the support member to deform the support member, the electric contacts slide on the electric contact elements, thereby removing solders adhered on the electric contact elements. The slits are arranged at random to be directed substantially in different directions so that horizontal forces caused by the urging forces of the electric contacts of the first mating electrical device are canceled out each other, thereby maintaining the axial alignment of the first mating electrical device with the electrical connector.

Electrical connector

An electrical connector includes an elastomer in the form of a layer, and a plurality of fine conductive wires embedded in the elastomer and extending rectilinearly in vertical directions to front and rear surfaces of the elastomer. The fine conductive wires have an overall length substantially the same as or slightly larger than the thickness of the elastomer so that both the ends of the fine conductive wires extend from the front and rear surfaces of the elastomer. The electrical connector includes a flexible printed circuit board connected to the fine conductive wires. The flexible printed circuit board includes at least three electric contacts arranged substantially concentrically around and electrically connected to each of the fine conductive wires. With this arrangement, the electrical connector enables a stable inspection for integrated circuit pads in a manner which minimizes irregularities in repeatedly measured values of electric resistance and skew.

An electrical connector includes an insulator and a plurality of contacts supported by the insulator. The insulator formed of an insulating plastic material is formed with a plurality of contact insertion apertures for inserting the contacts. Surfaces of the insulator around the contact insertion apertures are metallized, while the contact insertion apertures are independently electrically insulated. With this arrangement, substantially high shielding effect and sufficiently high speed information transmission are effectively accomplished.

In an electronic component provided with an electric contact(s) producing an electric conduction by contacting with a contact(s) of a second electronic component, the electric contact comprises a lead-free alloy layer containing tin and silver, and a surface layer portion of the alloy layer at least contacting with the contact of the second electronic component is a tin-rich layer having a tin content higher than that of the other portion of the alloy layer.

Electronic component and process for manufacturing the same

A method for producing a press in contact having a press-fitting portion having a U-shaped or V-shaped groove in cross-section to be press-fitted in a cylindrical through-hole of a printed circuit board. A block element having a rectangular cross-section corresponding to the press-fitting portion of the contact is formed at its center with a concaved portion by forging. Both the ends of the forged block element are removed by punching. Thereafter, the remaining U-shaped or V-shaped press-fitting portion in cross-section is further so worked by press working that its outer periphery is formed into arcs which are concentric to the through-hole when the press-fitting portion has been press-fitted and fixed therein.

Method for producing pressin contact

A press-in contact includes a connection portion to be connected to a circuit of a board or the like, a press-fitting portion to be fixed in a through-hole of a printed circuit board by press-fitting, and a contact portion contacting a contact of a mating connector. The press-fitting portion is formed to have a U-shaped groove in cross-section whose side walls has a thickness becoming thinner toward the open end of the U-shaped groove to make longer its outer peripheries contacting the through hole. A protrusion projecting from the center of the bottom of the U-shaped groove is provided along the full length of the U-shaped groove to an extent such that the protrusion does not adversely affect the flexibility of the ends of the walls of the U-shaped groove at its open end. With this construction, the ends of the walls forming the U-shaped groove are prevented from being deformed inwardly toward each other beyond the elastic limit, thereby maintaining the stable contact between the press-fitting portion of the press-in contact and the through-hole of the printed circuit board.

Press-in contact

A contact structure of an electrical connector including a first connector having a plurality of electric contacts and a second connector having a plurality of electric contact elements elastically and independently supported by forming slits close about the electric contact elements. When the first connector is first urged against the second connector, the electric contact elements are inclined at an angle &agr; by the electric contacts. When the urging force of the first connector is then reduced, the electric contact elements are returned through an angle &bgr; which is less than the angle &agr; to accomplish the electrical connection between the electric contacts and the electric contact elements. An inspecting device for such an electrical connector includes a housing having a fitting opening for the first connector, a cover pivotally connected to the housing and having an anchoring portion engageable with an engaging portion of the housing, and a block for mounting the second connector thereon. The engagement of the anchoring portion and the engaging portion with a clearance corresponds to the inclination of the electric contacts elements of the second connector at the angle &agr;, and the engagement without the clearance corresponds to the inclination of the electric contact elements which has been returned through the angle &bgr; from the inclination at the angle &agr;.

Contact structure of electrical connector and inspecting device therefor

A surface mounting method for mounting an electronic part having a great number of contacts onto a circuit board. A jig provided with dummy contacts is prepared whose size, number and arrangement are substantially the same as those of contacts of an electronic part to be mounted on a circuit board. The dummy contacts of the jig are then fitted with mating contacts which are to be fitted with the contacts of the electronic part. Thereafter, the jig provided with the dummy contacts fitted with the mating contacts is mounted onto the circuit board at a predetermined position thereon. The mating contacts are then mounted and fixed onto the circuit board. The jig is then removed from the circuit board. The contacts of the electronic part are then fitted with the mating contacts fixed to the circuit board. As an alternative, double ended socket contact members are prepared, each having socket contacts on both ends. Pin contacts of a circuit board are fitted in the socket contacts of the double ended socket contact members on their one ends and then pin contacts of an electronic part are fitted in the socket contacts of the members on their other ends.

Method of mounting surface connector

An electrical connector for a coaxial flat cable, includes pairs of contacts, each consisting of signal contacts and ground contacts and an insulating body for securely holding the contacts. Connection terminals of the pairs of the contacts are arranged in every pair in a row in a flat plane so that the signal contacts and the ground contacts are alternately arranged. The contact portions of the signal contacts and the contact portions of the ground contacts are arranged in every pair in one row and also the other row. The contact portions of the signal contacts of two adjacent pairs are arranged in different rows and the contact portions of the ground contacts of the two adjacent pairs are arranged in different rows. In another aspect, the contact portions of the pairs of contacts of odd numbers and even numbers are arranged in every pair in one row and also in the other row, respectively, so that the signal contacts and the ground contacts are alternately arranged. The contact portions of the signal contacts and the ground contacts in the one row are substantially in opposition to the contact portions of the ground contacts and the signal contacts in the other row, respectively.

Electrical connector for coaxial flat cable

When an electronic card is inserted into the device, a first reject plate is pressed to elongate first and second coil springs to anchor the card. When no writing or reading ROM and RAM of the card, electric current instantaneously flows through a solenoid to cause a stopper stopping a second reject plate to rotate through a slight angle so as to disengage the stopper from a front end of the second reject plate. As a result, the second reject plate is depressed by the second coil spring. At the same time, a reject arm provided on the second reject plate moves a reject oblique surface of a card latch to move the card latch through a slight angle to lower a card guide, so that the card is pushed by the first coil spring out of the device. In this manner, the card is not pushed out during writing or reading and hence contents of the card are not damaged. A solenoid requires only a force for moving the stopper through a small distance. The small solenoid and a little power are sufficient to operate the device. As the card is pushed out by the first coil a sufficient pushing device is obtained, so that the device can be used for many years without fatigue of the device.

Electronic card receiving device and ejection mechanism

An electronic card receiving device includes a card holder forming a card receiving space in the device for receiving an electronic card, a card latching mechanism for holding the electronic card in position in the card receiving space formed by the card holder, a contacting mechanism for electrically connecting the device to contacts of the electronic card held in position, and a card pushing mechanism for disconnecting the device from the electronic card and pushing it out of the device. The card pushing mechanism comprises a first ejecting plate and a second ejecting plate slidable in directions of inserting and removing the electronic card. The first ejecting plate comprises an abutting portion for applying a force to an inserted electronic card to push it in the direction of removing the card. The second ejecting plate comprises a stopper guide for obtaining an initial stable condition of the second ejecting plate, a latched condition of the inserted card and a transitional condition of the second ejecting plate during its sliding. When an electronic card is inserted into and removed from the device, an area where card terminals are rubbed by contact pins and time for such a rubbing are very small and short, so that the contact pins are scarcely worn and the card terminals of the electric card are not damaged to ensure high reliability of the system of this kind.

Electronic card receiving device

A drip-proof connector is used in connection between electric cables or the like and electric and electronic appliances such as cameras for televisions, servomotors for machine tools and the like. An insert of the connector is adapted to abut against an inwardly extending annular flange provided on an inside of a connector shell. With this arrangement, the drip-proof connector is simply and easily assembled or disassembled in fields without using particular tools and has a sufficient drip-proof property.

Drip-proof connector

A shuttered card-edge type IC card including a base having springs therein and a circuit board, a shutter and a cover provided in succession on at least one surface of the base. The base is formed with guide grooves and guide and spring receiving grooves. The springs are located in the guide and spring receiving grooves to close the shutter. The shutter is provided with pawls to be fitted in the guide grooves, respectively, for guiding the pawls in the guide grooves. The shutter is further provided with spring bias plates to be fitted in the guide and spring receiving grooves, respectively, for guiding the spring bias plates in the guide and spring receiving grooves and biasing the spring bias plates by the springs located therein. The connector comprises ridges located corresponding to the guide grooves of the base of the IC card and to be fitted in the guide grooves. The shutter of this IC card is not easily opened even if any member contacts the card in carrying or using it. Terminals of the IC card are securely in contact with contacts of the connector when the card is inserted into the connector of an electric computer.
