A thermal head drive circuit drives M number of thermal heads for printing one line and includes a delay unit that applies different time delays to M bits of print data to be supplied to the corresponding M thermal heads. The higher order the odd number thermal heads of the M thermal heads are, the greater are the time delays applied to the corresponding bits of the print data, while the higher order the even number thermal heads of the M thermal heads are, the less are the time delays applied to the corresponding bits of the print data.

A motor drive circuit includes a first transistor. The collector of a second transistor is connected to the emitter of the first transistor in series. A motor is connected to a connection point between the first and second transistors. A first brake control circuit turns off the first transistor and turns on the second transistor in accordance with a brake operation instruction signal. A second brake control circuit forces the first transistor to be turned OFF in accordance with the brake operation instruction signal independently from the first brake control circuit.

A motor driving circuit controls driving currents to be supplied to stator coils of a plurality of phases so as to supply the driving currents to the stator coils in sequence so as to generate a rotating magnetic field. The interaction between the rotating magnetic field generated by the stator coils and a magnetic field generated by a magnet of a rotor causes the rotor to rotate with respect to the stator coils. The motor driving circuit includes a driving circuit for supplying the driving currents to the stator coils, respectively; and a preventing circuit for preventing the driving means from supplying the driving currents to the stator coils in sequence.
