An optical apparatus includes a light emitting apparatus and a host apparatus. The light emitting apparatus includes a housing extending in a first direction, a light emitting device mounted in the housing, an optical connector including a first optical connection part provided at one end of the housing, and an electrical connector including a first electrical connection part provided at one end of the housing and receiving a voltage to drive the light emitting device. The host apparatus includes a host optical connector including a second optical connection part which faces the first optical connection part and is optically coupled thereto, a host electrical connector including a second electrical connection part facing the first electrical connection part and being electrically connected to the first electrical connection part, and a host board mounting the host optical connector and the host electrical connector thereon. The light emitting apparatus is connected to the host apparatus in the optical apparatus.

Optical apparatus, light emitting apparatus, optical cable, and method of connecting optical apparatus

An optical connector is disclosed. The optical connector includes an optical fiber, a ferrule that holds the optical fiber, the ferrule having a flat ferrule end surface facing a counterpart optical connector, and a spacer provided on the ferrule end surface so as to define a clearance between the ferrule end surface and the counterpart optical connector. A tip surface of the optical fiber is exposed at the ferrule end surface. Respective normal directions to the tip surface of the optical fiber and the ferrule end surface are inclined with respect to an optical-axis direction of the optical fiber in a section along an optical axis of the optical fiber. The spacer includes an opening configured to allow an optical path extending from the tip surface of the optical fiber to pass therethrough.

Optical connector and optical coupling structure

An optical cross-connect component mutually connecting an end of a first optical fiber group and an end of a second optical fiber group is disclosed. The optical cross-connect component includes a plurality of first connectors housing therein the end of the first optical fiber group, and a plurality of second connectors housing therein the end of the second optical fiber group. The m&#xd7;n optical fibers in the first optical fiber group are housed in any of the plurality of first connectors, and the m&#xd7;n optical fibers in the second optical fiber group are housed in any of the plurality of second connectors. The end of the first optical fiber group and the end of the second optical fiber group are connected so as to be butted to each other.

Optical cross-connect component

An optical cross-connect component is disclosed. The optical cross-connect component includes an optical fiber group having m&#xd7;n optical fibers, one ends and the other ends of the m&#xd7;n optical fibers being arranged in a matrix of m rows&#xd7;n columns, a plurality of first connectors housing the one ends of the optical fiber group, and a plurality of second connectors housing the other ends of the optical fiber group. The m&#xd7;n optical fibers are housed in any of the plurality of first connectors, and one first connector collectively houses therein n optical fibers arranged in at least any one row of the m rows. The m&#xd7;n optical fibers are housed in any of the plurality of second connectors, and one second connector collectively houses therein m optical fibers arranged in at least any one column of the n columns.

Ferrule

An optical assembly includes a circuit board including an electrically conductive path formed by printed wiring technology, a photoelectric conversion element connected to the circuit board via the electrically conductive path, a resin member made of light transmissive synthetic resin and attached to the circuit board, and a shielding member made of metal. The resin member includes a sleeve into which a ferrule attached to an end of an optical fiber is inserted and integrally includes a lens through which an optical path passes. The optical path extends between the sleeve and the photoelectric conversion element. The shielding member is connected to the circuit board and arranged to cover the photoelectric conversion element. The shielding member includes a window through which the optical path extends to the photoelectric conversion element.

Optical assembly

An optical connector ferrule having a front end, a rear end, an upper surface, and a lower surface includes a window opening on the upper surface, a plurality of fiber holes passing through a portion between the front end and the window along a first direction and including small diameter portions on the front end side and large diameter portions on the window side, and fiber grooves extending from the large diameter portions along the first direction and having openings in a third direction, in which the plurality of fiber holes include a first fiber hole row arranged in a second direction on a lower surface side, and a second fiber hole row arranged in the second direction on the upper surface side, and the large diameter portion in the second fiber hole row is longer than the large diameter portion in the first fiber hole row.

Optical connector ferrule

A method of manufacturing an optical module includes the steps of applying the invisible light onto the resin member and the optical device, observing, with use of a camera, a part of the resin member located at the optical fiber coupling plane and an image formed at the optical fiber coupling plane by the optical device active layer while applying the invisible light onto the resin member and the optical device, aligning positions of the resin member and the circuit board with respect to each other while observing the part of the resin member located at the optical fiber coupling plane and the image formed at the optical fiber coupling plane, and fixing the resin member to the circuit board while maintaining the aligned positions of the resin member and the circuit board.

Optical module and method of manufacturing optical module

An optical connector includes a housing, a photoelectric conversion circuit board on which a photoelectric conversion element is mounted, and a resin member made of a light transmissive synthetic resin and arranged on a plate surface of the photoelectric conversion circuit board so as to cover the photoelectric conversion element. The photoelectric conversion circuit board is housed in the housing. The resin member includes a sleeve to which a ferrule attached to an end of an optical fiber is fitted. The sleeve of the resin member is arranged such that an axial direction thereof is substantially perpendicular to the plate surface of the photoelectric circuit board. The resin member integrally includes a lens on an axial line of the sleeve such that the lens faces the photoelectric conversion element.

Optical connector having resin member including lens

A method to manufacture an optical module is disclosed, wherein the optical module has an optically active device on a lead frame and a lens co-molded with the active device and the lead frame by a transparent resin as positioning the lens with respect to the lead frame. The molding die of the present invention has a positioning pin to support the lens during the molding. Because the lead frame is aligned with the molding die, the precise alignment between the active device on the lead frame and the lens is not spoiled during the molding.

Optical module with a lens encapsulated within sealant and method for manufacturing the same

An optical connecting member realizes an optical connecting between a multi-core fiber and a plurality of single-core fibers by a waveguide part which connects a first end face and a second end face. With the optical connecting member, a connected end which is connected to the first end face is a straight-line portion that is orthogonal to the first end face in each of the plurality of waveguide parts. In addition, a diverged end which is diverged to the second end face is a straight-line portion that is orthogonal to the second end face. Consequently, light that has passed through the waveguide parts is emitted from the first end face and the second end face substantially perpendicularly to the faces, thereby enabling optical connecting loss to be favorably inhibited.

Optical connector, optical connecting structure and method of manufacturing optical connector

An optical combiner in which fewer parts are used comprises an optical component and a plastic body. The component comprises: a first filter reflecting first light having a first wavelength and being transparent to second light having a second wavelength and third light having a third wavelength; a second filter reflecting second light and being transparent to third light; and a base transparent to second light and third light. The first filter and the second filter are provided on opposed surfaces of the base. The plastic body has first, second, and third surfaces, and the first surface provides first, second, and third lenses. The component is provided in the plastic body such that light from the first lens is connected to a path to the second surface through the first filter and light from the second lens is connected to the path through the second filter. The third surface is a reflecting surface for connecting light from the third lens to the path.
