Provided is an analysis device capable of analyzing a wide range of ion concentrations. The analysis device includes: an ion separating unit selectively conducting a specific kind of ions from among a plurality of kinds of ions flowing through a flow path; a detection electrode provided in the flow path and disposed toward an outlet with respect to the ionization unit; and a deflection electrode positioned across the flow path from the detection electrode, and generating an electric field that moves the specific kind of ions toward the detection electrode. The deflection electrode is capable of adjusting a width of a region in which the electric field is generated in a width direction perpendicular to a direction in which the flow path extends.

An electrowetting device includes an electrode substrate including a first substrate, a plurality of first drive electrodes formed on the first substrate, and a water-repellent insulating layer formed on the plurality of first drive electrodes, a counter substrate including a second substrate, and disposed so as to face the electrode substrate with a predetermined gap therebetween, a sealing portion provided in a sealing region at the electrode substrate, and bonding the electrode substrate and the counter substrate, and an injection valve for injecting a droplet into the gap, the injection valve being located in the sealing region and including a first valve body formed of an electric field responsive gel.

Electrowetting device

Provided are an active matrix substrate having a reduced driving voltage and excellent adhesion between a dielectric layer and a water-repellent layer and a microfluidic device including the substrate. The active matrix substrate includes an array electrode, a dielectric layer covering the array electrode, and a first water-repellent layer in this order on a first substrate. The dielectric layer includes a silicon nitride film located on the side in contact with the first water-repellent layer, and the silicon nitride film has a surface layer region containing oxygen in the surface on the side in contact with the first water-repellent layer.

Active matrix substrate, microfluidic device provided with same, method for producing said active matrix substrate, and method for producing said microfluidic device

Provided is a microfluidic device that, as compared with a conventional microfluidic device, (i) is smoother in surface of a water-repellent layer provided above a segment electrode and (ii) makes it easier for microfluid provided in the surface of the water-repellent layer to slide. A microfluidic device () includes: an array substrate () including a plurality of electrodes (); and a counter substrate () including at least one electrode (), the array substrate () and the counter substrate () having therebetween an internal space () in which to cause an electroconductive droplet () to move across the plurality of electrodes (), and the plurality of electrodes () being provided on a first flattening resin layer () and each being a light-blocking metal electrode.

Microfluidic device

In an electrode substrate (), a contact hole () provided in a first planarizing resin layer () is filled with a second planarizing resin layer (). A TFT () is electrically connected to an electrode () via the contact hole (). On the electrode (), a water repellent layer () is provided via a dielectric layer () including the second planarizing resin layer () and an ion barrier layer ().

Electrode substrate, method for producing same, and electronic device

An embodiment of the present invention provides a microfluidic device into which fluid can be more easily introduced. A microfluidic device () is configured such that: (i) an upper substrate () is bonded to a lower substrate () via a sealing pattern () in such a manner that at least a portion of an edge of the upper substrate () is located inward of an edge of the lower substrate (); and (ii) the sealing pattern () includes at least one gap () that is provided at a position where the edge of the upper substrate () is located inward of the edge of the lower substrate ().

An EWOD device includes opposing substrates defining a gap and each including an insulating surface facing the gap. Array elements include electrode elements to which actuation voltages are applied. A pre-charging structure defines a channel in fluid communication with the gap wherein the channel receives an input of a fluid reservoir for generation of the liquid droplet, and the pre-charging structure includes an electrical element electrically exposed to the channel. The electrical element pre-charges the fluid reservoir within the channel, and a portion of the gap containing the liquid droplet spaced apart from the channel is electrically isolated from the electrical element such that the liquid droplet is at a floating electrical potential when located within said portion of the gap. The electrical element may be an electrode portion that is exposed to the channel, or an externally connected pre-charging element inserted into the channel.

The optical device () includes a first substrate (), a second substrate (), and an optical layer (). The first substrate includes a first electrode () and a second electrode () configured to be provided with mutually different electrical potentials within a pixel. The optical layer may include a medium () and a plurality of shape-anisotropic particles () dispersed in the medium. At least one of the first electrode and the second electrode may include a plurality of comb teeth portions () arranged at predetermined intervals along the first direction (D). When an electric potential difference is applied between the first electrode and the second electrode, the pixel may be configured to have an electrical field distribution in which a strong electric field region having a stronger field intensity than another region is periodically formed parallel to the surface of the optical layer along a second direction (D) orthogonal to the first direction.

Optical device

The present invention provides an optical modulator that prevents aggregation of shape-anisotropic particles. The optical modulator of the present invention includes: () a first substrate and a second substrate that are disposed to face each other; () an optical modulation layer disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate; and () a vertical alignment film. The optical modulation layer () contains: (A) liquid crystal molecules that have a positive anisotropy of dielectric constant with a value of the anisotropy &#x394;&#x3b5; of 10 or more; and (B) shape-anisotropic particles each including a core material and a coating layer that is formed of a material containing a fluorine atom and constitutes an outer surface of the shape-anisotropic particles. The first substrate includes a pair of electrodes. The liquid crystal molecules and the shape-anisotropic particles are aligned perpendicular to the first substrate with no voltage applied to the electrodes and are tilted parallel to the first substrate by a transverse electric field generated by application of voltage to the electrodes. The liquid crystal molecules have a surface energy in the range of 27 to 35 mN/m. The vertical alignment film has a surface energy in the range of 30 to 40 mN/m.

Optical modulator and display device

The present invention provides a display panel that exhibits increased light use efficiency and decreased occurrence of display anomalies. The display panel includes substrates; a light modulating layer that contains shape-anisotropic members that rotate according to the direction of an electric field and that controls the transmittance of incident light by changing the area projected onto the substrates by the shape-anisotropic members; and supporting members that support the shape-anisotropic members and are rotatably connected thereto.

The present invention provides a moth-eye film that is not likely to cause condensation on the surface.
