The present invention provides a sound-absorbing material having sound absorption performance with an average sound absorption coefficient of 0.70 or more in the frequency range of 800 to 5000 Hz. The present invention provides a sound-absorbing material including: a fiber layer including a plurality of holes open to a surface thereof and having a thickness of 3 mm or more; and an inorganic material layer mainly containing a calcium-based material and having a thickness of 0.4 to 0.6 mm on the surface of the fiber layer, the holes being blind holes each penetrating through the inorganic material layer and having a bottom inside the fiber layer, each hole having a depth corresponding to 50 to 90% of the thickness of the fiber layer.

A vehicle body mounting configuration is obtained which can properly mount an exhaust system heat exchanger on a vehicle body. The configuration includes an exhaust system heat exchanger which extends in a vehicle front-rear direction, a floor tunnel which opens downwards in a vehicle vertical direction, a body cross member which bridges wall portions of the floor tunnel, and a support portion which supports in a suspending fashion the exhaust system heat exchanger relative to the body cross member. The body cross member overlaps at an upper side in the vehicle vertical direction relative to a partition wall pipe which lies outside of a range where a cooling medium flow path is placed in a longitudinal direction, and the support portion is fixed, respectively, to the exhaust gas exhaust portion of the partition wall pipe and the body cross member.

Muffler structure for vehicle

A variable muffler corresponds to a muffler of an internal combustion engine including a variable valve that controls the flow of exhaust gas. The variable muffler includes a muffler body forming a muffler chamber, an inlet pipe with an opening at the muffler chamber to direct the flow of exhaust gas from the opening towards the muffler chamber, and a muffler-in pipe arranged in the muffler chamber. The muffler-in pipe includes an opening facing the opening at the muffler chamber, and into which the exhaust gas output from the opening flows in a predetermined direction. The muffler-in pipe further includes a slope inclining vertically downwards towards the opening, and extending in a direction different from the predetermined direction. By such a configuration, a muffler of an internal combustion engine having proper driving of the valve ensured can be provided.

A silencer includes a smaller cylindrical member having a planar portion and a larger cylindrical member arranged to closely contact at least a portion of the outer circumferential surface of the smaller cylindrical member. The larger cylindrical member as seen in a direction orthogonal to its axis provides an oblate cross section having a major axis X and a minor axis Y and the smaller cylindrical member is arranged to have the planar portion traversing the major axis X of the larger cylindrical member.

In an exhaust system, exhaust manifolds are connected to two banks provided in a V-type engine of a vehicle, respectively, to which front pipes each having a catalytic converter are connected to the exhaust manifolds, respectively. A muffler is provided at an exhaust downstream side of the exhaust pipes, and a rear pipe is further connected to the exhaust downstream side of the muffler. The front pipe has its rear end portion located near a through hole formed in the rear pipe. A path length of one of the front pipes from the bank to the muffler is made shorter than that of the other front pipe.

At the underside of a vehicle body, a fuel tank and an exhaust muffler are disposed alongside of each other along a vehicle body longitudinal direction, with a drive shaft being disposed between the fuel tank and the exhaust muffler. The front and rear of the fuel tank are attached with tank bands to two cross members. The exhaust muffler is attached to the two cross members via rubber supports. Because the exhaust muffler and the fuel tank are attached to common cross members, the noise vibration characteristics of the vehicle body are improved while suppressing an increase in the weight of the vehicle body.
