A printing apparatus for printing using a printhead including a plurality of nozzles, each configured to discharge ink, and a plurality of sensors, corresponding to the plurality of nozzles, for detecting a discharge state of ink from the plurality of nozzles, judges a discharge state. The apparatus prints, based on print data, an image by driving the printhead under a first drive condition to discharge the ink from the printhead to a first area, discharges ink to a second area different from the first area by driving the printhead, based on inspection data, under a second drive condition different from the first drive condition, and judges a discharge state of each nozzle by monitoring an output from each sensor at a timing of driving the printhead under the second drive condition.

There is provided a printing apparatus that can perform print timing control while moving a print head with high precision even when variation in moving speed of the print head is relatively large. More specifically, a prediction speed is obtained based on a detected moving speed of the print head and a control target speed at the time of detection, and then a print timing of the print head is controlled based on the prediction speed. Accordingly, a correction speed of the print timing is considered to be the obtained prediction speed. This makes it possible to minimize a landing error even when a speed variation is large.

A buffer driving capability control device is provided which can suppress occurrence of radiated noise due to a load driven by large driving power in the case where loads differing in driving power are connected to one terminal. The device includes an output buffer which can switch between the driving capability for driving a load requiring large driving power and the driving capability for driving a load requiring small driving power, and also includes a control period for driving the load requiring the large driving power and a control period for driving the load requiring the small driving power, and during the respective control periods, switches the driving capability of the output buffer to the ones suitable for the corresponding loads.
