A high voltage generation circuit is equipped with an AC power source, a positive polarity high voltage generating circuit, and a negative polarity high voltage generating circuit. A phase converter that converts the phase of an AC voltage supplied from the AC power source is disposed between the AC power source and the positive polarity high voltage generating circuit, or between the AC power source and the negative polarity high voltage generating circuit.

An electrode unit formed by mounting a discharge electrode in a first housing, and a power supply control unit formed by locating a high voltage generation circuit that outputs a pulsating high voltage to the electrode unit in a second housing are electrically connected via a shielded cable, and a capacitor is connected to a ground line electrically connecting between a shield layer of the shielded cable and the ground.

A polarity control unit includes a flag storage unit that stores any one of a first polarity pattern by which a positive direct-current voltage is applied to discharge needles in a first group and a negative direct-current voltage is applied to discharge needles in a second group and a second polarity pattern by which a negative direct-current voltage is applied to the discharge needles in the first group and a positive direct-current voltage is applied to the discharge needles in the second group, a flag update unit that rewrites one flag stored in the flag storage unit to another flag when a power switch is turned on from its off state or is turned off from its on state, and a command unit that commands a polarity pattern corresponding to the flag stored in the flag storage unit to be output from the polarity output unit.

Ionizer and control method thereof

An ionizer includes a polarity output unit that can selectively output, to a discharge unit, one of a first polarity pattern where the polarity output unit applies a positive direct-current voltage to a first group of discharge needles and applies a negative direct-current voltage to a second group of discharge needles and a second polarity pattern where the polarity output unit applies a negative direct-current voltage to the first group of discharge needles and applies a positive direct-current voltage to the second group of discharge needles and a polarity control unit configured to control the first and second polarity patterns. The polarity control unit includes a current detection unit configured to detect respective direct currents passing through the first group of discharge needles and the second group of discharge needles. When the difference between the current values of the first group of discharge needles and the second group of discharge needles detected by the current detection unit becomes greater than a predetermined value, the polarity control unit switches between the first and second polarity patterns.

In an ionizer, two output resistors are connected to a needle electrode through a switch unit. DC high voltage generating circuits, respectively, generate DC high voltages continuously during operation of the ionizer. A first switch and a second switch, which constitute the switch unit, are turned ON in mutually different time bands, respectively.
