The present invention aims to provide a solar cell having high durability against deterioration due to moisture ingress from the side surfaces. The solar cellof the present invention includes: first and second electrodesand; a perovskite layerprovided between the first and second electrodesandand containing an organic-inorganic perovskite compound (A) represented by the formula RMXwhere R is an organic molecule, M is a metal atom, and X is a halogen atom; and a side-surface-protecting layerprovided on a peripheral side of the perovskite layerto coat at least part of a side surface of the perovskite layer, the side-surface-protecting layercontaining at least one selected from the group consisting of a metal halide (B1) and an organometal halide (B2) or containing an organohalide (C).

The present invention aims to provide a solar cell in which a decrease in photoelectric conversion efficiency due to continuous exposure to light (photodegradation) is reduced, and a method of producing the solar cell. The present invention relates to a solar cell, including: an electrode; a counter electrode; and a photoelectric conversion layer between the electrode and the counter electrode, the photoelectric conversion layer containing an organic-inorganic perovskite compound represented by the formula R-M-Xwhere R is an organic molecule, M is a metal atom, and X is a halogen atom or a chalcogen atom, the solar cell satisfying the formula (1):()/(0,)&#x3c;5&#x2003;&#x2003;(1)where N(0, I) is a carrier density of the organic-inorganic perovskite compound immediately after start of exposure of the solar cell to light at an intensity of I mW/cm, and N(T, I) is the carrier density of the organic-inorganic perovskite compound after continuous exposure of the solar cell to light at an intensity of I mW/cmfor T hour/hours.

An object of the present invention is to provide a solar cell that is excellent in photoelectric conversion efficiency, suffers little degradation during encapsulation (initial degradation), has high-humidity durability, and is excellent in temperature cycle resistance. The present invention provides a solar cell including: a laminate having an electrode, a counter electrode, and a photoelectric conversion layer disposed between the electrode and the counter electrode; and an encapsulation material covering the counter electrode to encapsulate the laminate, the photoelectric conversion layer including an organic-inorganic perovskite compound represented by the formula: R-M-X, R representing an organic molecule, M representing a metal atom, X representing a halogen atom or a chalcogen atom, the encapsulation material including a resin having at least one skeleton selected from the group consisting of polyisobutylene, polyisoprene, and polybutadiene.
