A storage system includes a plurality of drive nodes, a plurality of controller nodes controlling data from a host device to the plurality of drive nodes, and a processor that calculates long-term load fluctuation prediction as prediction of load fluctuation over a certain period of time in the future of the plurality of controller nodes based on time-series data of load of the plurality of controller nodes, and calculates an addition/reduction completion target time to complete addition or reduction of an operating controller node out of the plurality of controller nodes based on the long-term load fluctuation prediction and a load threshold value determined from a power performance model representing a relationship between the load and energy efficiency of the plurality of controller nodes.

Storage system and method for predictive rebalancing and controller node management based on load prediction

A storage system includes a controller and one or more storage devices, and the controller can compress data in different compression units, and collectively compresses data of one or a plurality of consecutive addresses in each compression unit of the different compression units. The controller receives write data, determines whether read of data stored in the one or more storage devices is necessary for compression of the write data by a first compression unit, determines compression of the write data in the first compression unit when read is not necessary, and determines compression in the first compression unit or compression in a second compression unit smaller than the first compression unit based on a remaining endurance of rewriting of the one or more storage devices when read is necessary.

Storage system

Each controller of a plurality of storage controllers is an old storage controller before replacement or a new storage controller after replacement. The new storage controller can execute a first program and a second program, and the old storage controller can execute at least the second program. When all of the plurality of storage controllers are the new storage controller, the new storage controller processes data input and output to and from the storage drive by using the first program. When the plurality of storage controllers includes at least one of the old storage controllers, each storage controller of the plurality of storage controllers processes the data input and output to and from the storage drive by using the second program.

A storage device includes a processor and an accelerator configured to compress and decompress data. The processor receives first replacement write data for a part of a first logical address region to update first data in the first logical address region that has been compressed by basic compression unit. The processor instructs the accelerator to compress the first replacement write data by a size smaller than the basic compression unit. The accelerator compresses the first replacement write data by the smaller size. The processor merges not-to-be-replaced data in the first logical address region and the first replacement data that are decompressed by the accelerator to generate uncompressed data having a size of the basic compression unit. The processor instructs the accelerator to compress the uncompressed data by the basic compression unit.

Storage device

The storage device includes a first memory, a process device that stores data in the first memory and reads the data from the first memory, and an accelerator that includes a second memory different from the first memory. The accelerator stores compressed data stored in one or more storage drives storing data, in the second memory, decompresses the compressed data stored in the second memory to generate plaintext data, extracts data designated in the process device from the plaintext data, and transmits the extracted designated data to the first memory.

Performance deterioration of a storage system is prevented. A storage controller includes one or more processors, and one or more memories configured to store one or more programs to be executed by the one or more processors. A data store volume (DSVOL) for a snapshot group which is a group of the PVOL and one or more SVOLs for the PVOL is a data storage region where data of which a storage destination is one volume (VOL) of the snapshot group and meta-information of the data are stored, and the meta-information is information including address mapping between a reference source address which is an address of a position of the data in the snapshot group and a reference destination address which is an address of a position of the data in the DSVOL. A process of a storage system increases the number of DSVOLs in the snapshot group when an input/output (I/O) load on the snapshot group exceeds a threshold.
