A base unit includes a support to support a motor, a bottom plate, and a wall. The bottom plate extends radially outward from the support. The wall extends upward from an outer periphery of the bottom plate, and includes a rectangular opening in planar view. Surfaces of the bottom plate and the wall include a cover surface covered with an electrodeposition coating film and an exposed surface in which a material of the base unit is exposed from the electrodeposition coating film. At least an upper end surface of the wall and a partial region of an inside wall surface of the wall continuous with the upper end surface are each the exposed surface.

The adhesive includes a filler.

Base unit and disk drive apparatus

A base plate is arranged to define a portion of a housing of a hard disk drive, and includes a base body defined by casting, and an electrodeposition coating film arranged to cover a surface of the base body. The surface of the base body includes a coated surface covered with the electrodeposition coating film, and a flat worked surface exposed from the electrodeposition coating film. The worked surface may include a gate position to which a gate has been connected at the time of the casting. At least a portion of the worked surface is covered with an impregnant.

A base member includes a recessed portion extending in radial directions and recessed upward from a lower surface of the base member and a hole extending through the recessed portion in the vertical direction. The recessed portion includes a recessed portion loop-shaped surface defining a loop-shaped surface in the radial direction. A connector is located on a lower side of the recessed portion to cover the hole portion. An adhesive is located between the connector and the recessed portion. A minimum value of a gap distance in the radial direction between an outer end of the connector and an inner end of the recessed portion in which the outer end of the connector and the inner end of the recessed portion are opposed to each other with the adhesive therebetween is greater than a minimum value of a gap in the vertical direction distance between an upper surface of the connector and the recessed portion loop-shaped surface, in which the upper surface of the connector and the recessed portion loop-shaped surface are opposed to each other with the adhesive therebetween. The adhesive includes an inorganic filler.

In a spindle motor, a cup portion of a base member includes a cylindrical portion coaxial or substantially coaxial with a central axis extending in a vertical direction and a bottom plate portion defined integrally with the cylindrical portion, and located to close a lower portion of the cylindrical portion. The bearing mechanism is inside of the cup portion and an outer circumferential surface of the bearing mechanism and an inner circumferential surface of the cylindrical portion include a first adhesive layer located therebetween. The base member includes a communicating hole that passes through the bottom plate portion in an axial direction. The communicating hole includes a second adhesive layer located therein.

A base member includes a recessed portion arranged to extend in radial directions and recessed upward from a lower surface of the base member, the radial directions being directions perpendicular to a vertical direction; and a hole portion arranged to pass through the recessed portion in the vertical direction. The recessed portion includes a recessed portion loop-shaped surface being a loop-shaped surface perpendicular to the vertical direction. A connector is arranged on a lower side of the recessed portion to cover the hole portion. An adhesive is arranged between the connector and the recessed portion. A minimum value of a gap distance between an outer end of the connector and an inner end of the recessed portion in a radial direction in which the outer end of the connector and the inner end of the recessed portion are opposed to each other with the adhesive therebetween is greater than a minimum value of a gap distance between an upper surface of the connector and the recessed portion loop-shaped surface in the vertical direction, in which the upper surface of the connector and the recessed portion loop-shaped surface are opposed to each other with the adhesive therebetween.

A base portion of a motor includes an inner bottom plate portion, a recessed portion and groove portions recessed upward from a lower surface of the inner bottom plate portion, and at least one through hole passing through the inner bottom plate portion in an axial direction. The groove portions extend from the recessed portion toward land portions of a circuit board on a lower surface of the base portion. Conducting wires are drawn out from coils above the base portion to a draw-out surface through the at least one through hole, and are passed through communicating openings and the groove portions to be soldered to the land portions. Each of the at least one through hole is covered with the sealant. Drawing the conducting wires out of the recessed portion through the groove portions prevents the sealant in the recessed portion from overflowing toward the land portions.

Disk drive motor including inner bottom plate grooves for receiving conducting wires of stator coils

A base portion of a spindle motor includes a base portion through hole passing therethrough from an upper surface to a lower surface thereof. Coils include a lead wire drawn out from above the upper surface downwardly from the lower surface through the base portion through hole. A circuit board includes a land portion to which the lead wire is connected. The spindle motor includes an insulation sheet portion configured to cover at least a portion of the base portion through hole and with which the lead wire is arranged to be in contact. A thickness of the insulation sheet portion is greater than a thickness of the land portion.

A cup portion of a base member includes a cylindrical portion and a bottom plate portion. The cylindrical portion is arranged to be coaxial or substantially coaxial with a central axis extending in a vertical direction. The bottom plate portion is defined integrally with the cylindrical portion, and is arranged to close a lower portion of the cylindrical portion. A bearing mechanism is arranged inside of the cup portion. An outer circumferential surface of the bearing mechanism and an inner circumferential surface of the cylindrical portion have an adhesive layer arranged therebetween. In one preferred embodiment of the present invention, a communicating hole passing through the cylindrical portion in a direction that crosses an axial direction is defined in the vicinity of a junction of the cylindrical portion and the bottom plate portion. In another preferred embodiment of the present invention, the base member includes a communicating hole passing through the bottom plate portion in the axial direction.

A dynamic pressure bearing apparatus includes a bearing portion, a shaft, a radial dynamic pressure bearing portion, and a seal gap. An annular member arranged in an annular shape, fixed to the shaft axially between the seal portion and the attachment surface, and arranged to extend radially outward beyond an opening of the seal gap. A minute horizontal gap extending radially is defined between an upper surface of the bearing portion and a lower surface of the annular member. The seal gap is arranged to be in communication with an exterior space through the horizontal gap.

A motor includes a bearing mechanism including a shaft disposed along a center axis extending in a lengthwise direction, a sealing member disposed on a lower side of the bearing mechanism, a stationary portion including a base constituting a part of the housing, and a rotary portion rotating relative to the stationary portion about the center axis via the bearing mechanism. The base has a through hole defined therein so as to have a center aligned with the center axis and pass through the base in an axial direction. The bearing mechanism is fixed to the base in a first fixing region defined between an inner circumferential portion of the base and an outer circumferential portion of the bearing mechanism. The sealing member is fixed to the base in a second fixing region defined between the inner circumferential portion of the base and an outer circumferential portion of the sealing member. At least one of the first fixing region and the second fixing region includes a sealing region.

A base portion made of a metal includes an upper surface, a lower surface, and a base portion through hole. An insulation sheet portion is located on the lower surface, and covers at least a portion of the base portion through hole. A lead wire is in contact with the insulation sheet portion. A spindle motor includes a first sealant located in the base portion through hole, and a second sealant which covers at least a portion of the base portion through hole. The first sealant has a coefficient of linear expansion greater than a coefficient of linear expansion of the base portion and smaller than a coefficient of linear expansion of the second sealant.

A fan includes a motor and an impeller. The motor includes a stationary portion and a rotating portion rotatably supported by the stationary portion. The stationary portion includes a stator and a bearing portion arranged inside of the stator. The rotating portion includes a rotor magnet arranged radially outside the stator; a shaft inserted in the bearing portion, and having an upper portion fixed to the impeller directly or through one or more members; and a thrust portion arranged axially opposite the bearing portion, and including an annular surface arranged around the shaft.
