A wavelength conversion apparatus according to an aspect of the present disclosure includes a wavelength conversion layer that converts excitation light in terms of wavelength and an optical array layer formed of a plurality of cells each having a first surface on which light as a result of the wavelength conversion performed by the wavelength conversion layer is incident and a second surface via which the light exits. The optical array layer has a reflection surface that extends from the first surface to the second surface, is located at an interface between the cells adjacent to each other, and reflects the light.

A wavelength converter according to the present disclosure includes a wavelength conversion layer that has a first surface and a second surface different from the first surface and converts excitation light that belongs to a first wavelength band into fluorescence that belongs to a second wavelength band different from the first wavelength band, a first light transmissive member that has a third surface on which the excitation light is incident and a fourth surface different from the third surface and transmits at least the excitation light, and a first layer provided between the first surface of the wavelength conversion layer and the fourth surface of the first light transmissive member, which are surfaces facing each other. The refractive index of the first light transmissive member is greater than the refractive index of the wavelength conversion layer, and the first layer transmits the excitation light and reflects the fluorescence.

The changing rate is a rate of change of the cross-sectional area in every 0.25 mm in a direction along an optical axis of the light emitting tube. The cross-sectional area is an area of a plane perpendicular to the optical axis in a space between an outside shape of at least one of the pair of electrodes and an inside wall of the light emitting tube.
