A side door for a vehicle includes a folded airbag which inflates upward in response to a side collision of the vehicle, and a cover member disposed above the airbag and covering the airbag. The cover member has a plurality of sections arranged in a fore-aft direction of the vehicle. The sections are defined by a hinge portion extending generally straight in the fore-aft direction of the vehicle and a plurality of lateral thin portions extending from the hinge portion generally in a lateral direction of the vehicle. When the airbag inflates, by means of inflation force of the airbag, the lateral thin portions rupture and the individual sections rotate about the hinge portion and open.

Side door for vehicle

An air bag system is provided with an air bag body, an inflator unit, and a sensor unit. The sensor unit is provided with a first sensor which detects an impact of a vehicle, a second sensor which detects a rolling-over of the vehicle, and a controller. When an impact of the vehicle is detected by the first sensor, the first inflator is actuated so that gas is supplied to the air bag body. Thereby, an internal pressure of the air bag body reaches a first pressure. When a rolling-over of the vehicle is detected by the second sensor, both the first and second inflators are actuated. Thereby, the internal pressure of the air bag body reaches a second pressure higher than the first pressure.
