Image generation apparatus and image generation method

Disclosed is an image generation apparatus generating and outputting a panoramic image that is obtained by converting, to a planar shape, a projection plane onto which a scene within at least a partial range of a virtual sphere as viewed from an observation point is projected. The panoramic image is such that a unit area on the virtual sphere containing a given attention direction as viewed from the observation point is converted to a broader area than other unit areas. The image generation apparatus generates the panoramic image corresponding to the projection plane such that a portion of a main line that links a position in the attention direction to a position in a direction opposite the attention direction and is within the panoramic image corresponding to a unit amount of an angle of rotation around the observation point is maximized in length at a position closest to the attention direction.

An image generating apparatus generates a panoramic image by transforming at least one divided area including a range onto which a scene viewed from an observation point is projected, out of eight divided areas obtained by dividing the surface of a sphere having at least a partial range onto which the scene is projected, with three planes that pass through the center of the sphere and are orthogonal to each other, into such an area that the number of pixels corresponding to mutually equal latitudes is progressively reduced toward higher latitudes, and placing the transformed area on a plane, and outputs the generated panoramic image.

An image conversion unit converts the generated wide viewing angle image into an image of a transmission format in which the angular resolution which is a number of pixels per unit angle centered at the point of view is adjusted in response to a ray direction toward the point of view. An image provision unit transmits the image in the transmission format in which the angular resolution is adjusted to a head-mounted display unit. The head-mounted display unit converts the received image so as to conform the image to an optical characteristic of a device and displays the image on the device.

Image generation apparatus and image generation method of generating a wide viewing angle image

An acquisition unit acquires a command that is executable by a processor of an other type being a processor of a different type from a processor of a processing execution subject apparatus. An identification unit identifies processing that is executable by the processor of the processing execution subject apparatus which is associated with the command acquired by the acquisition unit. An execution control unit controls execution of the processing performed by the processor of the processing execution subject apparatus based on a value of a parameter which is set in a specific command for the processor of the other type, the value of the parameter which is set in the specific command not affecting execution of processing performed by the processor of the other type.

Three-dimensional image generation is used for generating, as images to be used for stereoscopic display, two images showing a scene within a virtual three-dimensional space viewed from two points of view set in the virtual three-dimensional space, the three-dimensional image generation includes: acquiring a value of a screen distance parameter, which indicates a distance from a representative position for the two points of view to a virtual screen position in the virtual three-dimensional space; and generating, as the images to be used for the stereoscopic display, the two images showing the scene within the virtual three-dimensional space viewed from the two points of view disposed at positions and in directions that are determined based on the acquired value of the screen distance parameter.
