A scanning optical apparatus includes an image forming unit disposed between a medium to be scanned and a diflective reflection surface of a rotary polygon mirror so as to make a light beam deflected by the rotary polygon mirror form an image on the medium to be scanned and as to maintain the deflective reflection surface and the medium to be scanned in a geometrically optical conjugate relationship in a plane perpendicular to a surface to be deflectively scanned with the deflected light beam, and a vibration unit for vibrating another image forming optical unit in a direction of an optical axis of light beam emitted from a light source in synchronization with a deflection scanning of the rotary polygon mirror so as to vibrate an image forming position, at which the aforementioned another image forming optical unit forms a linear image, along the optical axis of the emitted light.

Scanning optical apparatus

A polygonal mirror for use as a light beam deflector or scanner in an image exposure device includes a support on which a polygonal mirror body is mounted such that it is positionally limited thereby at positions near angular corners between mirror facets of the polygonal mirror. The polygonal mirror body may have a plurality of through holes defined therein on radial lines interconnecting said axis and said angular corners so that said polygonal prism body is subject to a substantially uniform moment of inertia about said axis upon rotation thereof. The holes may be filled with cores which are made of a material having a density smaller than the density of the material of which said polygonal prism body is made. Alternatively, a sheet of resin may be disposed on at least one of axially opposite surface of said polygonal prism body.

Polygonal mirror for scanning light beam

A copier capable of binding copy papers at their center or their edge as desired. A bookbinding device is operatively connected to a paper outlet of the copier. To bind the papers at their center, a folding mechanism of the bookbinding device is activated first in order to form a crease along the center of each copy paper. Then, a binding mechanism of the bookbinding device is activated to sequentially stack the papers in an upwardly convex form and such that the creases face upward in alignment and, then, stitch the papers together along the aligned creases by means of a staple or the like. The bound papers are discharged to a stacking mechanism of the bookbinding device in a developed position so as to be stacked there while being folded double in the creases. When it is desired to duplicate documents on papers which are equal to or double the size of the documents and bind the copies at the center, a positional relationship between the documents and the papers is set up by a unique method.
