A web processing apparatus has a cutting mechanism for cutting elongate webs of different widths from a raw web, a core rotating mechanism for selectively holding cores having different diameters and different axial lengths and rotating a selected one of the cores in opposite directions, a winding mechanism for supporting one of the elongate webs on an outer circumferential surface of the core to wind the elongate web in different winding directions when the core is rotated, and a cutting mechanism for cutting an end of the elongate web to produce a roll after the elongate web is wound around the core.

A film winding apparatus has a film winding mechanism for rotating a roll core to wind an elongate film around the roll core thereby to produce a film roll, a product receiving mechanism for gripping the film roll while tensioning the elongate film, the product receiving mechanism being displaceable away from the film winding mechanism, and a cutting mechanism for transversely cutting off the elongate film while the elongate film is being tensioned by the product receiving mechanism. The elongate film can be wound highly accurately around the roll core with a simple process and arrangement.

While a magnetic disk is being rotated, compressed air is jetted to corresponding positions on the two surfaces of the magnetic disk. An abrasive tape, which has tension in its longitudinal direction, is interposed between at least either one of the two surfaces of the magnetic disk and the compressed air jetted thereto such that the compressed air may now be jetted to the abrasive tape. The air pressure of the compressed air, which is jetted to the abrasive tape, and the tension on the abrasive tape are adjusted such that the abrasive tape may be formed into a bent shape having a level of rigidity appropriate for pushing the magnetic disk. The bent shape portion of the abrasive tape is brought into sliding contact with the magnetic surface of the magnetic disk, and the region of the sliding contact of the magnetic surface of the magnetic disk with the abrasive tape is thereby uniformly burnished.

In a method for inspecting a magnetic disk cartridge, the state, with which an adhesive agent has been applied as an annular layer onto a flange of a center hub in order to adhere a magnetic disk body and the flange of the center hub to each other, is inspected. A collimated light beam is irradiated to a cross section of the layer of the adhesive agent, which cross section is taken in the radial direction of the center hub, from a direction which is parallel to the surface of the flange and which is perpendicular to the cross section of the layer of the adhesive agent. The collimated light beam has a beam diameter such that the whole cross section may be included in the beam diameter. The amount of the collimated light beam, which has passed through the region in the vicinity of the flange, is detected. The area of the cross section of the layer of the adhesive agent is calculated from the detected amount of the collimated light beam, which has passed through the region in the vicinity of the flange. Thereafter, the amount of the adhesive agent, which has been applied onto the flange, is investigated from the results of the calculation.

Method for inspecting magnetic disk cartridge

A magnetic tape wind-up control method comprises the steps of controlling the speed, at which a feed motor is rotated, in accordance with a signal generated by a tape movement detector, and controlling the speed, at which a wind-up motor is rotated, in accordance with a signal which represents the position of a dancing arm, which thereby controls the tension on the magnetic tape. The number of revolutions completed by the wind-up motor is detected, and the outer diameter of a roll of magnetic tape, which is being wound around a wind-up reel, is calculated from the thickness of the magnetic tape, the diameter of a core of the wind-up reel, and the number of revolutions completed by the wind-up motor. The value indicated by a tape speed command is divided by the outer diameter of the roll of the magnetic tape. A rotation speed command signal, which represents the quotient of this division, is generated, and the speed of rotation of the wind-up motor is controlled on the basis of the rotation speed command signal. Simultaneously, the tension on the magnetic tape is controlled on the basis of the position of the dancing arm.

A light beam containing at least ultraviolet light in a predetermined wave range is projected onto a portion of a floppy disk casing applied with a liner, and ultraviolet light in the predetermined wave range contained in reflected light from each point on the portion of the casing is received. The intensity of the received ultraviolet light corresponding to each point is subjected to a threshold processing and whether the liner is applied to the inner surface of the casing in a satisfactory state is determined on the basis of the result of the threshold processing.
