Disclosed is a method comprising: (a) mixing in a first mixing step ingredients comprising (i) first polymer, (ii) a low molecular weight polymer having a number average molecular weight of about 5,000 to about 100,000, and (iii) a filler, and (b) mixing in a second mixing step ingredients comprising (i) the mixture obtained in step (a), (ii) a second polymer that is different from said first polymer, and (iii) optionally a filler. In one embodiment, the method further comprises mixing sulfur and vulcanization accelerator(s) into the composition, forming the rubber composition into a sidewall for a tire, and vulcanizing the rubber composition.

In a pneumatic tire of the present invention, a tread reinforcing rubber layer composed of a rubber having larger tensile modulus of elasticity than that of a rubber composing the tread rubber layer and is less stretchable is provided in a thickness direction central area of a tread rubber layer. Because the tread reinforcing rubber layer diminishes the amount of lateral expansion and the amount of vertical compressive deformation when the tread rubber layer contacts the ground, generation of heat in the tread rubber layer can be suppressed. Therefore, in the present invention, the unique tread structure reliably suppresses heat-generation and the rubber of the tread rubber layer exhibits excellent tire wear resistance. As a result, suppression of heat-generation and high tire resistance can readily be achieved simultaneously.

There is disclosed a pneumatic tire for heavy duty use having a tread which is composed of a rubber composition comprising 100 parts by weight of an (A) isoprene-based rubber and 30 to 70 parts by weight of (B) carbon black which has a nitrogen-adsorption specific surface area (BET) of 120 to 160 m,/g; a dibutyl phthalate absorption amount (DBP) of 80 to 130 ml/100 g; a most frequent value of aggregate diameter distribution (D,) of 60 to 70 nm; and a half peak width (&Dgr;D,) of 65 to 80 nm, and as the case may be, 3 to 20 parts by weight of (C) silica which has a nitrogen-adsorption specific surface area (BET) of 210 to 260 m,/g; and an oil absorption amount of 200 to 260 ml/100 g. The above pneumatic tire is capable of enhancing the low heat-buildup property without detriment to the abrasion resistance of a tread rubber, and favorably reconciling both the low heat-buildup property and the abrasion resistance of itself.

A pneumatic tire for heavy loads having a rubber composition for a tread rubber for a construction vehicle or the like, containing carbon black having a nitrogen adsorption specific surface area of 100 to 160 m.sup.2 /g, and an oil (dibutyl phthalate) absorption amount (DBP) of 80 to 130 ml/100 g, and silica having a nitrogen adsorption specific surface area of 210 to 260 m.sup.2 /g, and an oil absorption amount of 200 to 260 ml/100 g, by a total content of 40 to 70 parts by weight, in 100 parts by weight of isoprene rubber material, wherein the rubber composition contains 3 to 15 parts by weight of the total content. Further, the rubber composition contains 30 to 50 parts by weight of carbon black having a nitrogen adsorption specific surface area of 130 to 180 m.sup.2 /g, and an oil (dibutyl phthalate) absorption amount (DBP) of 80 to 120 ml/100 g, and 5 to 15 parts by weight of silica having a nitrogen adsorption specific surface area of 170 m.sup.2 /g or more, and 2.0 parts by weight or more of aging preventive agent, in 100 parts by weight of isoprene rubber material, wherein the compounding ratio of silica to carbon black (silica/carbon black) in the rubber composition is in a range of from 0.1 to 0.5 in the rubber composition.
