An evaporative pattern casting process includes forming a mold by burying a pattern made of resin foam in casting sand, pouring molten metal into the mold, and evaporating the pattern with the molten metal and thereby casting a product. In the evaporative pattern casting process, casting time during founding is set according to a modulus (pattern volume&#xf7;pattern surface area) of the pattern. Accordingly, the casting time in the evaporative pattern casting process is accurately set with high precision.

Provided are a tripod constant velocity joint, and a method and a device for assembling the joint. The opening of a through-hole formed in an inner member of the tripod constant velocity joint has formed therein a tapered, reduced diameter section having a diameter tapered from the opening toward the inside. A first annular groove is formed in the side wall of a driving power transmission shaft, and a clip serving as an engaging member is engaged with the first annular groove. A second annular groove is formed in the inner wall of the through-hole in the inner member. In inserting the driving power transmission shaft through the through-hole in the inner member, the tapered, reduced diameter section guides the shaft in such a manner that the clip is contracted toward the bottom surface of the first annular groove. The clip expands and contracts due to the elasticity thereof when the positions of the first annular groove and the second annular groove coincide with each other.

In a constant-velocity-joint-assembly positioning system, a first boot positioning apparatus includes a clamping mechanism for clamping a central drive shaft of a constant velocity joint assembly, a right boot positioning mechanism for positioning a right boot of the joint assembly and a left boot positioning mechanism for positioning a left boot of the joint assembly. The boot positioning apparatus variably sets distances, from the left boot positioning mechanism, of the clamping mechanism and right boot positioning mechanism. A transfer-pallet-position adjusting apparatus includes an adjusting mechanism by which positions of first and second joint-assembly gripping mechanisms are adjusted in accordance with differences between current and target positions of the gripping mechanisms. A vertical position setting apparatus includes a plurality of stopper pieces, provided in correspondence with various possible types of constant velocity joint assembly, so as to allow an upper end of each joint assembly to be set to a uniform vertical position. The disclosed invention is a method and apparatus for winding a band, such as a metal band, around a flexible boot and fixing it thereto. Band clamping members are provided including right and left upper members and right and left lower members, and band guide surfaces on inner portions of the clamping members form an approximately round shape when these clamping members are closed. An inserted band is prevented from being caught along the band guide surfaces due to the structure thereof, and the band is wound around the outer circumference of the boot smoothly and reliably. After winding, welding and the cutting of the excess part of the band are carried out reliably and efficiently.
