Specifically provided is a light emitting device for image display, wherein each of light emitting elements, a PWM control unit which PWM-controls a current to be supplied to the light emitting element, a control condition setting unit which, according to the APL of image data, determines and updatably sets the PWM limiting condition for limiting the PWM value that is the duty ratio of the PWM control, and the reference current value that is the value of the current flowing to the light emitting element in response to turn-on of the PWM control, and a PWM value calculation unit which on the basis of the image data, the PWM limit condition, and the reference current value, calculates the PWM value of each area, and the PWM control unit performs the PWM control on the basis of the reference current value and the calculated PWM value.

Light emitting device for image display, image display apparatus, and LED driver

An object is to implement a narrowed picture-frame while suppressing the occurrence of light leakage and a reduction in luminance in an edge-light type backlight device. In a method of controlling power of a light emitting device for image display that irradiates illumination light from divided regions, light emission brightness data of each light emitting element of the light emitting device is determined based on image data for image display (S). Power in each region and total light emission power are computed based on the light emission brightness data of each light emitting element for each region (S). If the computed total light emission power exceeds predetermined allowable power, the power in each region is limited so that the total light emission power is equal to or less than the predetermined allowable power (S).

An illumination device includes an LED package, an LED driver including an FET, and a thermistor disposed on a substrate. A plurality of such LED packages are disposed on the substrate such that a first area and a second area, each determined by vertices corresponding to LED packages, are defined on the substrate. The thermistor is disposed in the first area, and the FET is disposed in the second area, which is outside of the first area. The thermistor detects a temperature in the first area. Such a configuration allows the thermistor to detect, in accordance with the temperature in the area, the temperature of heat transferred from the LED packages, without being affected by heat generated by the FET. This makes it possible to efficiently make temperature corrections to stabilize color temperature and luminance.

A display apparatus includes a liquid crystal display panel, a front side viscoelastic layer, a front side hard layer, a back side viscoelastic layer, a back side hard layer, a backlight unit, a driving circuit board, and a metal plate. Thus, the display apparatus is resistant to breakage caused by a load placed on a display surface of the liquid crystal display panel and an impact when dropped, thereby attaining mechanical durability.

A liquid crystal display apparatus includes a liquid crystal display panel, a backlight system, a driving circuit board for driving the liquid crystal display panel and the backlight system, and a housing for housing the foregoing members. The invention concerns an input device including an input receiving panel and a stylus enabling an input, the input device sensing an input by means of capacitive coupling between a panel electrode on the input receiving panel and a stylus electrode on the stylus, and includes: a signal supply section supplying an input sensing signal to the panel electrode; a signal detecting circuit detecting a signal generated in the stylus electrode; and an input sensing section comparing the input sensing signal with the detection signal detected by the signal detecting circuit and sensing an input based on a result of the comparison. An input-sensing digital code is superimposed on the input sensing signal. This allows for further reduction in the possibility of false sensing caused by noise than conventional techniques.

In an image display device which employs pulse width modulation driving, a voltage which is less than a voltage supplied to signal lines is applied to pixel electrodes. Tones are displayed by shifting phases of waveforms of the signal lines and scanning lines, and polarities of pixels in a signal line direction are inverted alternately. This prevents increase in power consumption which is caused by pulse intervals which become too small at high tone levels, in addition to preventing change in tone level due to external factors such as temperature, or signal delays in a driver or wiring.

An active matrix substrate includes: a base plate; pixel electrodes formed on the base plate; pixel switching elements, each being connected to associated one of the pixel electrodes; gate lines for controlling operations of the pixel switching elements; data lines, each being connected to associated ones of the pixel electrodes by way of associated ones of the pixel switching elements so as to supply a data signal therethrough; data line switching elements, each having one of its terminals connected to associated one of the data lines; signal input terminals, each being electrically connected to another terminal at associated ones of the data line switching elements; a data line branching section provided between the signal input terminals and the data line switching elements; and a control line connected to the data line switching elements to selectively turn ON or OFF the data line switching elements. A signal to turn ON the data line switching elements and a signal to turn ON the pixel switching elements have mutually different polarities.

Active matrix substrate, display device and method for driving the display device

Input position is accurately detected. In an x-detection period of a non-display period, a source drive circuit simultaneously applies to all signal wiring lines a pulse of a peak value proportional to a distance from a gate drive circuit. A coordinate detection circuit obtains an x-coordinate on the basis of a voltage induced at a pen corresponding to the peak value (x-coordinate) of the applied pulse. In a y-detection period, a pulse generation circuit applies one pulse to a common line. The pen detects a potential variation in amplitude proportional to a distance (y-coordinate) from the source drive circuit, generated approximately simultaneously on all the signal wiring lines via a capacitance. The coordinate detection circuit obtains the y-coordinate similarly to the case of x-coordinate detection.

Input-output integrated type display device

A display device is arranged in such a manner that rows on the screen on which pixel electrodes are provided in a matrix manner are sequentially selected so as to be scanned by scanning signal lines formed on a substrate, and a data signal is supplied from gray scale signal lines, which are formed on a counter substrate facing the substrate, to the pixel electrodes on the selected row, so that the display is carried out. Also, an idle period, (i) which is longer than a scanning period for scanning the screen once and (ii) during which period all scanning signal lines are in the state of non-scanning, is provided, and the scanning period and the idle period constitute one vertical period. With this arrangement, it is possible to (1) provide a driving method of a display device by which method the reduction of power consumption is sufficiently realized without causing the degradation of the display qualities, and (2) provide a display device using the same.
