A heat exchanger includes a plurality of fins extending along upper and lower directions, and a flat tube extending crosswise to the plurality of fins. Each of the plurality of fins has a first side edge portion and a second side edge portion, the first side edge portion and the second side edge portion extending along the upper and lower directions. The flat tube has end portions in the longitudinal axis direction of the flat tube, the end portions including a first end portion and a second end portion. The first end portion is positioned closer to the first side edge portion than the second end portion is to the first side edge portion. Each of the plurality of fins includes at least one water guide portion formed at at least one of a position between the first side edge portion and the first end portion, and a position between the second side edge portion and the second end portion, the water guide portion extending in the upper and lower directions, a lower edge portion positioned below the flat tube in the upper and lower directions, and a protruding edge portion positioned below the water guide portion and protruding downwardly relative to the lower edge portion.

The plate-like fins each have a plurality of notches provided in an end portion along the long side. The plate-like fins have a shape corresponding to the cross-sectional shape of the flat heat exchanger tubes, and the flat heat exchanger tubes are inserted into the notches. The manufacturing method includes disposing the flat heat exchanger tubes with a predetermined spacing from one another, and attaching the plate-like fins to the flat heat exchanger tubes one by one by inserting the flat heat exchanger tubes into the notches of each of the plate-like fins.

A thermal printer comprises a thermal printing head to heat an ink ribbon overlapping a printing sheet. The ink ribbon is coated with thermally transferable colorants and transfer ratio regulating materials. First, the transfer ratio regulating materials are transferred onto the printing sheet by heating the ink ribbon, and then the colorants are transferred according to an image to be printed. The colorants are thus thermally transferred onto the printing sheet in accordance with the amount and range of transferred regulating materials. The material operates to reduce or promote the transfer of colorants. Thus, a multi-gradation expression of the printed image may be achieved by changing the transferred amount of the transfer rate regulating materials.

According to the present invention, a transfer medium is set to be fed. Transfer materials are set to be selectively fed in such a manner that each transfer material has a monochromatic color agent and an identification code assigned thereto, or a plurality of color agents and identification codes assigned thereto. A first feeding means feeds the transfer medium, while a second feeding means feeds the transfer material. A transfer portion transfers a color agent of the transfer material fed by the second feeding means to a transfer medium fed by the first feeding means in accordance with printing data. A detecting means detects the identification code of the transfer material. A controlling means discriminates the type of transfer material in accordance with the identification code detected by the detecting means. The controlling means changes the printing mode in accordance with this discrimination result. Therefore, the feeding operations of the first and second feeding means and the transfer operation of the transfer portion are controlled in accordance with the selected printing mode.
