Catalyst components for polymerization of olefins and use thereof

Disclosed is a catalyst component for the polymerization of olefins, which is a compound having the following structure: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is a hydrocarbon radical having 1 to 10 carbon atoms or a halogen-containing hydrocarbon radical having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and R.sup.2 s are each a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a siloxy group, a lower-alkyl-substituted siloxy group or a hydrocarbon radical having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, or which is a reaction product of the following sub-components (i) and (ii): sub-component (i) which is a compound having the formula

The present invention provides a catalyst for polymerizing an .alpha.-olefin which is capable of producing an .alpha.-olefin polymer having a high molecular weight in a high yield under the polymerization conditions including at high temperature, and a process for preparing an .alpha.-olefin polymer, which catalyst comprises a Component (A) which comprises a coordination compound having a skeleton of a metallocene compound comprising an indenyl ring or a hydroindenyl ring which is an indenyl having a six-membered portion hydrogenated as a ligand and having Ti, Zr or Hf as a metal component in combination with a Component (B) which is, for example, an alumoxane. The coordination compound is crosslinked at the six-membered rings characterized by the fact that two of the indenyl or hydroindenyl groups are crosslinked at the six-membered ring of the indenyl or hydroindenyl group.

A polyolefin composition comprising: (1) about 70 to about 35% by weight of a polyolefin; (2) about 30 to about 65% by weight of a talc containing a metal content of up to about 0.9% by weight; and (3) based on the total amount of (1) and (2), at least 0.02% by weight of a specific alkyl 3,5-di-t-butyl-4-hydroxy-hydrocinnamate and at least 0.03% by weight of a specific dialkyl thiodipropionate or acetate. A sheet formed from this composition is odor free, has good whiteness, and can be fabricated into food packaging containers by a vacuum or pressure forming technique.
