An efficient disaster recovery system is constructed at three data centers. A data center includes: a business server for executing an application in response to an input/output request; a storage system for providing a first storage area storing data in response to a request from the business server; and a management server for managing a second data center or a third data center among the plurality of data centers as a failover location when a system of a first data center having the first storage area stops; and wherein the management server: copies all pieces of data stored in the first storage area to a second storage area managed by a storage system of the second data center; and copies part of the data stored in the first storage area to a third storage area managed by a storage system of the third data center.

Storage system and data management method

A drop in the access performance to a source volume is prevented by executing various control methods according to the snapshot usage method. A storage apparatus comprises one or more storage devices which provide storage areas; and a controller which creates a logical volume in the storage area provided by the one or more storage devices, and which reads and writes data from/to the logical volume according to a request from a host, wherein the controller acquires one or more snapshots which are data images at certain time points of the logical volume, wherein the controller determines whether the logical volume is subject to abrupt load fluctuations on the basis of performance information of the logical volume and the snapshots, and wherein, if the logical volume is subject to abrupt load fluctuations, the controller executes predetermined control processing according to usage cases of the snapshots.

Storage apparatus and method for controlling storage apparatus involving snapshots

A storage device including a migration source logical volume of an application copies data stored in the logical volume into a migration destination logical volume of the application. After the copy process is started, the storage device stores data written into the migration source logical volume as differential data without storing the data into the migration source logical volume. When the copy process is completed for the data stored in the migration source logical volume, a management computer starts copying of the differential data, and in a time interval after the copying of the data stored in the migration source logical volume is completed but before the copying of the differential data is completed, a computer being a migration destination of the application is turned ON, thereby reducing power consumption at the time of application migration.

Application migration and power consumption optimization in partitioned computer system

A storage device including a logical volume being a migration source of an application copies data stored in the logical volume being a migration source into a logical volume being a migration destination of the application. After such a copy process is started, the storage device stores the data written into the logical volume being a migration source as differential data without storing the data into the logical volume being a migration source. When the copy process is completed for the data stored in the logical volume being a migration source, a management computer starts copying of the differential data, and in a time interval after the copying of the data stored in the logical volume being a migration source is completed but before the copying of the differential data is completed, a computer being a migration destination of the application is turned ON. With such a logically-partitioned computer system, power consumption at the time of application migration can be reduced.

Files belonging to a file group are collected at an uppermost tier when a specific action occurs with respect to a key file of the file group. When an action with respect to a keyword occurs while a management processor of a disc adapter is taken as a management server and a host is taken as an agent, and file promotion processing is carried out by the management server by starting management software in accordance with a microprogram. When the content of the specific action satisfies promotion conditions, the other files belonging to the same file group as the key file are promoted to the uppermost tier to be ready for utilization.

A host and a storage system are connected via at least one intermediate device so as to be able to communicate. The storage system comprises a storage device, which makes it possible to store data. The host recognizes a logical path from this host to the storage device. In this case, a computer, which is able to read in and execute a computer program, carries out processing for specifying a plurality of physical paths, which exist between the host and the storage system; specifying to which physical path of the specified plurality of physical paths the logical path corresponds; and making the logical path correspond to the specified physical path.
