A thermoplastic resin composition (Y) characterized by comprising (A) 20 to 64.9 wt % one or more ethylene copolymers comprising an ethylene/&#x3b1;-olefin copolymer, (B) 35 to 70 wt % metal hydroxide, and (C) 0.1 to 30 wt % grafted ethylene polymer. The resin composition has excellent flame retardancy and has satisfactory pliability/flexibility and excellent tensile properties. It is suitable for use as an insulating material or sheath for electric wires. Also provided are: a polymer composition (Z) having high flame retardancy, characterized by comprising relative to (AA) 100 parts by weight of a polymer such as a thermoplastic polymer or thermosetting polymer, in the ratio of (BB) 50 to 250 parts by weight of a metal hydroxide, (E) 0.1 to 40 parts by weight of a triazine ring containing compound, and (F) 0.1 to 40 parts by weight of a polyhydric alcohol; and a molded object obtained from the polymer composition. These are suitable for use as an insulating material or sheath for electric wires.

A film and method for fastening cargo during transportation wherein the film has a percentage strain change 100 hours after applying a load of 3.5 MPa at a temperature of 23&#xb0; C. of not more than 2.0%, and a percentage strain change 100 hours after applying a load of 0.5 MPa at a temperature of 55&#xb0; C. of not more than 2.5%. Moreover, it is preferable for the elastic modulus at a temperature of 23&#xb0; C. to be not more than 60 MPa, and the elastic modulus at a temperature of 55&#xb0; C. to be not more than 20 MPa. Such a film can be formed from substantially random interpolymer(s) each comprising 1 to 99 mol % of polymer units derived from an aromatic vinyl or vinylidene monomer and/or a hindered aliphatic or cycloaliphatic vinyl or vinylidene monomer, and 1 to 99 mol % of polymer units derived from at least one &#x3b1;-olefin having 2 to 20 carbon atoms. The above film has a low percentage strain change compared with films made of EVA or a urethane resin, and hence the ability to hold/fasten products during transportation is excellent, and thus the products can be prevented from being damaged.

The sheathed wire or cable of the invention is obtained by coating an outermost layer of a wire or cable with a polyethylene resin produced by polymerization using a single-site catalyst. The polyethylene resin preferably has the properties: (i) the 50% crack occurrence time (F ), that becomes an indication of stress crack resistance, is not less than 600 hours, (ii) the abrasion wear as measured by a Taber abrasion test is not more than 10 mg, and (iii) the Izod impact strength (notched) as measured at &minus;40&deg; C. is not less than 40 J/m . In the polyethylene resin, high-pressure low-density polyethylene may be contained. The sheathed wire and cable exhibit excellent stress crack resistance, abrasion resistance and low-temperature impact resistance because their sheaths have stress crack resistance, abrasion resistance and low-temperature impact resistance better than those of conventional polyethylene sheaths.

A resin which is an ethylene/&agr;-olefin copolymer comprising ethylene and an &agr;-olefin having 3 to 12 carbon atoms exhibiting particular physical properties including a narrow molecular weight distribution, and which is suitable for flexible sealed containers showing excellent flexibility, unstickiness and excellent slip properties, and flexible sealed containers therefrom.

The present invention provides polyethylene resin and its compounds for container uses, which realize molding of thin-walled articles and high-speed molding, achieves/achieve excellent printability and stress cracking resistance and are suitable for container uses involving tubes, bottles, etc., and containers. Specifically, there are provided a polyethylene resin compound for container uses comprising linear polyethylene having a narrow molecular weight distribution and satisfying specific properties and containers produced therefrom.

A process for polymerizing an alpha-olefin using either a catalyst formed by contacting a highly active solid titanium catalyst component, an organo-metallic compound of a metal of Group 1 to 3 of the periodic table, an organic halogen compound or a transition metal compound, and an organosilicon compound or a sterically hindered amine in an inert medium in the absence of an alpha olefin, or a catalyst prepared by preliminarily polymerizing an alpha olefin in the presence of a catalyst comprising the above four catalyst components, provided that the last one is an optional component. This process achieves the industrially advantage that the catalysts are highly active, and give a polymer having excellent stereoregularity.
