An air bag device for a motorcycle deploys to cushion an impact to a rider of the motorcycle during a collision. The air bag device is mounted to a body frame of the motorcycle in front of the rider. Bag anchoring members provide a connection between the air bag and the body frame. During deployment of the air bag, the bag anchoring members deploy from grooves in the motorcycle's fuel tank, and extend together with the air bag to hold the air bag securely to the frame body.

A motorcycle provided with a receiving chamber positioned beneath the seat includes a forwardly inclined engine and a generally horizontally disposed transmission to permit expansion of the carrying capacity of the receiving chamber. The receiving chamber rear wall, moreover, is depressed inwardly to create an external recess for extending the clearance space between the chamber and the rear wheel, as well as providing a protrusion interiorly of the chamber capable of positioning a helmet therein.

Motorcycle

A gear shift device for vehicles of the type including a reverse speed stage is disclosed. The device is provided with a rotation inhibiting member for inhibiting rotation of a gear shift drum when the latter is caused to turn to the reverse position. The rotation inhibiting member is displaced to the inhibition releasing position by operation of the remote control member only when a vehicle is kept in a braked state, thereby permitting the gear shift drum to turn to the reverse position. With this arrangement, shifting to the reverse speed stage during forward travelling of the vehicle is prevented reliably.
