The present invention provides a color developer composition characterized in that the composition contains a color developer comprising as its main component a nucleus-substituted salicylic acid salt represented by the formula (1) given below, and at least one amide compound selected from the group consisting of the compounds of represented by the formula (2) and formula (3) given below. ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 to R.sub.10 are as defined in the specification.

Herein disclosed are a method for preparing an aqueous developer dispersion which comprises the steps of dissolving, in an organic solvent, a developer which comprises a nuclear-substituted salicylic acid salt represented by the following general formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 may be the same or different and each represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group having not more than 15 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl group, a phenyl group, a nuclear-substituted phenyl group, an aralkyl group or a nculear-substituted aralkyl group, or two adjacent groups selected from R.sub.1 to R.sub.4 may be bonded together to form a ring; n is an integer of not less than 1; and M represents magnesium, calcium, zinc, aluminum, iron, cobalt, nickel or a basic ion thereof; emulsifying and dispersing the resulting solution in an aqueous solution of an acrylamide copolymer having a degree of polymerization of not less than 100 obtained by copolymerizing 96 to 70 mole % of acrylamide with 4 to 30 mole % of an alkyl or alkoxyalkyl, having not more than 4 carbon atoms, ester of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, itaconic acid or maleic acid; then heating the emulsified dispersion to remove the organic solvent by distillation; and optionally finely wet-pulverizing the resulting aqueous dispersion to an extent that reduction in the average particle size of the developer dispersed in the dispersion does not exceed 10%; as well as pressure-sensitive recording paper obtained using the aqueous developer dispersion. Herein disclosed are a method for preparing an aqueous developer dispersion which comprises the steps of dissolving, in an organic solvent, a developer which comprises a nuclear-substituted salicylic acid salt represented by the following general formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 may be the same or different and each represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group having not more than 15 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl group, a phenyl group, a nuclear-substituted phenyl group, an aralkyl group or a nuclear-substituted aralkyl group, or two adjacent groups selected from R.sub.1 to R.sub.4 may be bonded together to form a ring; n is an integer of not less than 1; and M represents magnesium, calcium, zinc, aluminum, iron, cobalt, nickel or a basic ion thereof; emulsifying and dispersing the resulting solution in an aqueous solution of an acrylamide copolymer having a degree of polymerization of not less than 100 obtained by copolymerizing 96 to 70 mol % of acrylamide with 4 to 30 mol % of an alkyl or alkoxyalkyl, having not more than 4 carbon atoms, ester of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, itaconic acid or maleic acid; then heating the emulsified dispersion to remove the organic solvent by distillation; and optionally finely wet-pulverizing the resulting aqueous dispersion to an extent that reduction in the average particle size of the developer dispersed in the dispersion does not exceed 10%. The recording paper is substantially improved in the developing density, developing velocity and printability.

An aqueous dispersion of a developer for pressure-sensitive recording sheet, having superior handling performance and storage stability in a high concentration and a process for producing the dispersion are provided, which developer is expressed by the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 may be the same or different and represent H, halogen, alkyl of 1 to 9 carbon atoms, alkylene, cycloalkyl, cycloalkylene, phenyl, nucleus-substituted phenyl, aralkyl or nucleus-aralkyl; adjacent two of R.sub.1 to R.sub.4 may form a ring; n is an integer of one or more; and M is Mg, Ca, Zn, Al, Fe, Co, Ni or a basic ion of the foregoing, and which developer has a softening point of 30.degree. C. or higher and is dispersed in water, containing a dispersing agent, the size of particles of the developer being 0.3 to 5.mu. in terms of average particle diameter, and the proportion of right spherical particles in the total particles being 50% or more; and which process comprises emulsifying-dispersing the developer in water containing a dispersing agent at a temperature higher by at least 30.degree. Disclosed is a pressure sensitive manifold paper prepared by coating a substrate with a coating composition containing microcapsules of polyurethane resin or polyurea resin wall film and drying the resulting coating, the pressure sensitive manifold paper being characterized in that a latex of copolymer of comonomers comprising about 10 to about 50% by weight of styrene, about 15 to about 55% by weight of butadiene, about 10 to about 40% by weight of methyl methacrylate and up to about 15% by weight of acrylonitrile is incorporated in the coating composition in an amount of about 5 to about 30% by weight (calculated as solids) based on the microcapsules (calculated as solids). The pressure sensitive manifold paper has an adequate balance between the color forming ability and susceptibility to color smudges due to contact or friction.

A self-contained type pressure sensitive record sheet prepared by coating a substrate with a mixture of a color acceptor and microcapsules containing a color former in the form of a single layer and drying the resulting coating, the mixture containing 40 to 200 parts by weight, per 100 parts by weight of the microcapsules calculated as solids, of a pulp powder having a weight average fiber length of 20 to 80.mu., has well-balanced improved properties in respect of color forming ability, prevention of color smudging and printability.

A hydrophobic liquid including a polyvalent isocyanate therein is dispersed in an aqueous medium in the presence of a specific polymer dissolved therein to form an emulsion system for producing microcapsules. A process for preparing microcapsules for pressure sensitive manifold paper characterized by emulsifying in a hydrophilic liquid a hydrophobic liquid containing an aromatic isocyanate represented by the formula ##STR1## wherein n is an integer of 1 to 10, an aliphatic isocyanate and an electron donating organic chromogenic material, and forming a polymer at the interface to cover hydrophobic liquid droplets with the polymer.

Process for preparing microcapsules for pressure sensitive manifold paper

This invention concerns with an improved microcapsule dispersion prepared by adding the following components to a known microcapsule dispersion containing PVA; a pulp having a specific weighted average fiber length, another type of pulp, carboxymethyl cellulose and/or a specified periodic acid type compound, and is characterized by overcoming the drawbacks of known microcapsule dispersions attended by use of PVA.

The residual formaldehyde existing in the aqueous dispersion of microcapsules each having a capsule wall of an aldehyde polycondensation resin formed by polycondensation of formaldehyde with an amine in the presence of an acid catalyst is removed by adjusting the aqueous dispersion to an alkaline state, adding to the aqueous dispersion at least one reaction catalyst which is a member selected from the group consisting of metal hydroxides, phosphates, calcium salts and magnesium salts, and then heating and agitating the aqueous dispersion to cause a reaction to remove residual formaldehyde therefrom.

Method of treatment of an aqueous dispension of microcapsules

The method of making oil-containing microcapsules comprises the step of (1) preparing an aqueous system comprising an aqueous solution of gelatin and at least one anionic colloid material and oil droplets dispersed in said solution (2) causing coacervation in said aqueous system at a temperature above the gelation point of said gelatin to form a coacervate suspension in which each of said oil droplets is surrounded by a coacervate and (3) cooling said coacervate suspension to a temperature below the gelation points of said gelatin to form multi-nucleus capsules. During the step of cooling the coacervate suspension, aggregation of particles of oil droplets each having a coacervate therearound is controlled by an agitation flow so as to allow formation of multi-nucleus microcapsules having an average diameter within the range of 3 to 20 microns. The gelatin has an average viscosity not larger than 35 millipoise in terms of the value measured by the bloom type pipette method at 40.degree..+-.0.5.degree. C. according to Japan Industrial Standard K 6503 with respect to a 62/3% aqueous solution of said gelatin at the pH of 4.5 and at least 5% by weight of said gelatin has a viscosity not larger than 25 millipoise in said terms and/or the anionic colloid material is a carboxymethylcellulose having a viscosity within the range of 2 to 500 centipoise measured by the Brookfield viscometer with a 60 r.p.m. No. 1 rotor with respect to a 2% aqueous solution of said carboxymethylcellulose at 25.degree. C.
